O propósito deste artigo é analisar o olhar feminino através da narração e do mis-en-scène da série The Handmaid’s Tale, em português, O Conto da Aia (2017). A série se passa em uma sociedade distópica, regida à base da teonomia totalitária e fundamentalista cristã. As mulheres dessa sociedade perderam suas vozes, são desumanizadas, devido ao seu gênero, e tornadas objetos férteis nas mãos de seus comendadores; a narrativa e o desenvolvimento das personagens fazem alusão ao empoderamento feminino e suas lutas pelos direitos civis que vêm acontecendo desde o fim século XIX. A busca por suas vozes torna-se evidente a partir da narração que ajuda a compreender a representatividade da mulher na série.Palavras-chave: The Handmaid’s Tale. Feminismo. Identidade. Narrativa. Este trabalho objetivou traçar um paralelo e estabelecer uma conversa entre os dualismos de homem e animal. Para que esta discussão se articulasse dentro do campo literário, escolhemos como objeto de pesquisa o poema The Jaguar (1957), de Ted Hughes. Iniciamos nossa discussão passando pelos princípios narrativos poéticos e estabelecemos uma conexão entre os estudos de Descartes e Heidegger, filósofos que discutem os animais e a animalidade. Para além disso, discutimos a historicidade do autor e analisamos o poema de Hughes a partir da perspectiva do olhar e do aprisionamento animal e a relação dialética entre seres humanos e não-humanos; a partir dessa reflexão, tecemos novos olhares para a subjetividade animal.
