Introdução: A escolha do método contraceptivo é de extrema importância para a realização do planejamento familiar e para a vivência saudável da sexualidade. Para uma seleção assertiva, é imprescindível considerar fatores biológicos, culturais e econômicos de cada indivíduo. Por existir uma ampla variedade de métodos, é essencial compreender sua indicação, disponibilidade, efeitos colaterais e modo de utilização. Logo, ter pouco conhecimento sobre os contraceptivos ainda é um empecilho para a população. Apesar de estudantes da área da saúde serem um público com acesso a informações sobre saúde sexual e reprodutiva, é frequente entre eles comportamentos sexuais de risco por incoerências no uso de contraceptivos. Isso evidencia que, para uma atividade sexual segura, é necessário, além do conhecimento formal, motivação para a adoção do comportamento preventivo e competências práticas para a constância dessa conduta. Objetivo: Identificar os métodos contraceptivos mais utilizados por estudantes de medicina de uma universidade pública do Piauí. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo descritivo e transversal com uma amostra de 190 alunos de medicina de uma instituição pública do estado do Piauí. A coleta de dados foi feita por um questionário, via Formulário Google, que continha 27 perguntas. Utilizou-se, para análise de dados, planilha do Microsoft Excel e teste estatístico χ2 de Pearson. Os participantes tiveram acesso ao Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido (TCLE) antes de preencher o questionário. O estudo foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da referida universidade. Resultados e conclusão: A maioria dos participantes é do sexo masculino (59%), tem de 18 a 22 anos (62%) e está namorando (51%). A maior parte dos estudantes sabe da existência de diversos métodos contraceptivos, com destaque para preservativos, anticoncepcional oral e dispositivo intrauterino (DIU). Dos participantes da pesquisa, 86% já tiveram relação sexual e, deles, 89% fizeram uso de contracepção na primeira relação sexual, sendo a camisinha masculina o método mais escolhido. A respeito do uso de contraceptivos atualmente, 84% responderam que utilizam. Deles, 49% usam o preservativo masculino e os que não fazem uso de nenhum método contraceptivo alegam que não têm relações sexuais no momento. Sobre o uso de contracepção de emergência, 55% dos estudantes já utilizaram, e a maioria por mais de três vezes. No tocante à educação sexual e reprodutiva recebida, 48% julgam-na suficiente e 21% ótima. As fontes mais citadas foramescola (82%) e internet (79%). Logo, apesar de o estudo ter sido realizado com um público que tem acesso à informação sexual e reprodutiva, é essencial aperfeiçoar a educação sobre essa temática, que é oferecida ao estudante de medicina da instituição onde a pesquisa foi realizada com vistas a contribuir para uma formação discente holística e para a promoção do cuidado pessoal.
Introdução: Os sistemas intrauterinos (SIU) são umas das formas mais práticas e efetivas de contracepção, unindo a eficácia de longo prazo e índices de falha semelhantes aos da esterilização cirúrgica, com o diferencial de serem reversíveis. Possuem dois possíveis mecanismos de ação: não hormonal e hormonal. Os SIU hormonais funcionam pela liberação constante de levonorgestrel (SIU-LNG), um progestágeno potente de longa ação que suprime o endométrio, reduzindo o volume e a duração da menstruação. Apesar de vir ganhando destaque no exterior por seu potencial terapêutico no controle do sangramento uterino anormal e pelos menores índices de gravidez indesejada, além dos diversos benefícios e indicações amplas que abrangem mulheres nulíparas, adolescentes e lactantes, o uso do SIU-LNG no Brasil apresentou adesão mínima em relação aos demais métodos contraceptivos. Esse fato deve-se ao desconhecimento de opções contraceptivas reversíveis, principalmente de longa duração (LARC), e a sua menor disponibilidade nos setores públicos e privados brasileiros. Diante desse cenário, os profissionais de saúde desempenham papel essencial na quebra de mitos sobre o SIU-LNG. Contudo, evidências demonstram que o desconhecimento de seus usos e benefícios, bem como a preocupação com expulsões, perfuração e atraso no retorno à fertilidade, impedem o aconselhamento adequado sobre o SIU-LNG pelos profissionais da saúde. Objetivo: Demonstrar a importância da realização de cursos práticos de capacitação quanto à indicação e à técnica de inserção do SIU-LNG e o impacto na formação de médicos residentes em ginecologia do estado do Piauí. Materiais e métodos: Realizou-se capacitação teórica com residentes, na qual se explicaram todas as etapas de inserção do SIU-LNG, seus benefícios, malefícios e diferencial quando comparado com outros métodos contraceptivos. O treinamento prático deu-se com o uso de modelos pélvicos, SIU e todo o material necessário para a aplicação, visando tornar a prática confortável e realista. A implantação do SIU-LNG ocorreu em pacientes previamente selecionadas, sob supervisão dos orientadores do curso. Posteriormente, foi aplicado um formulário estruturado para avaliar a satisfação dos residentes com o treinamento e a relevância deste para a formação daqueles. Resultados e conclusão: Observou-se, por meio de formulário de autoavaliação do médico residente, que a realização de um treinamento teórico-prático para a indicação e colocação de SIU-LNG é pertinente para a educação continuada de residentes em ginecologia, repercutindo positivamente em sua formação acadêmica. O curso permitiu ampliar os conhecimentos acerca dos métodos contraceptivos e da terapêutica para o sangramento uterino anormal, bem como a prática do exame físico ginecológico em manequins e o exercício da execução de procedimentos ambulatoriais, preenchendo uma lacuna na formação teórico-prática de médicos residentes em ginecologia do estado do Piauí.
