The importance of reflective thinking among teachers has long been recognized, and it remains a crucial indicator of learning and ensures teachers’ professional development. This study’s aim is to understand a teacher education program’s impact on the reflective thinking of preservice teachers in Pakistan. Utilizing a mixed-method approach, 400 teacher education candidates participated in the quantitative analysis, which involved a follow-up that included 10 semi-structured interviews by teacher education candidates. The results showed that teacher education in Pakistan is characterized by the production of more graduates but lacks the focus to develop and generate reflective practitioners in the field. This research contributes to our understanding about the importance of reflective thinking in terms of how it can improve preservice teachers’ thinking patterns and nurture teacher education. Furthermore, this study suggests that teacher-training institutions should focus on improving the quality of the trainings for students.

Many elementary students face difficulties in solving word-based, mathematical problems. This study explores using the reciprocal teaching instructional strategy for word-based, mathematical problems at the elementary level. We used a quasiexperimental research design for this study to address the reciprocal teaching environment design, implementation, and evaluation at elementary level mathematics education. Two sixth grade model classes, A & B, of a public secondary school from the district of Okara, Punjab, Pakistan, were selected for this study. Reciprocal teaching for mathematics appears to be an essential strategy for nurturing a more in-depth understanding of the text of mathematical word problems at the elementary level. Due to the importance and special nature of kindergarten stage on children’s cognitive, social, emotional and psychological growth, this study aimed at identifying the main teaching competencies required for kindergarten teachers in China. To achieve this objective, an observation card was applied on a group of 41 teachers from different kindergartens. The findings of the study suggested, firstly, that the levels of teaching competencies might be divided into five levels. This classification might be attributed to the variables of the study; namely, specialization, qualification and teaching years of experience. Secondly, the findings also revealed that, on the one hand, there were statistically significant differences according to the variable of specialization and the years of experience. On the other hand, no significant differences were found due to the variable of academic qualification. On the basis of these findings, a group of recommendations were put forward.
