Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is an ailment in which median nerve is trapped in carpal tunnel and as a result a person feels tingling, numbness, and weakness in the wrist joint. It is most caused when excessive pressure is applied on the wrist joint. Most of the professionals go through this condition because of the nature of their work. Hairdresser, dentists, and labourers are commonly affected by this condition. Objective: This study determines the prevalence of CTS among butchers in Pakistan. Methods: Butchers from different cities of Pakistan were selected to check out the prevalence of CTS. 400 butchers from different cities of Pakistan were selected. Observational study design was carried out and convenient sampling was used to collect the data. The butchers having the age of 20 to 40 years were included with having an experience of 3 years or more. All the butchers should use the manual instruments during the processing of meat. They were told about the purpose of our research and a consent form, personally designed CTS diagnosis questionnaire, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Questionnaire (BCTSQ) were filled by them. Functional limitations and symptoms severity of butchers with CTS were also assessed. Results: The prevalence of CTS among butchers in Pakistan was 10.3%. The butchers having age between 26-30 years had 46% cases of CTS among them. 21-25 years old butchers had 17% of affected butchers among them. According to experience, butchers having 3-5 years’ experience was the most affected among them. 34% butchers of 3-5 years’ experience were involved. There was moderate level of functional limitation in CTS affected butchers according to BCTSQ. Next thing was the symptom severity with moderate level of symptoms severity was present in butchers suffering from CTS. Conclusion: The prevalence of CTS among butchers in Pakistan was 10.3%. All the butchers suffering from CTS had moderate level of intensity of pain. There was a moderate level of functional limitation and symptoms severity related to CTS affected butchers.
Low back pain is a leading problem in bike riders and is increasing day by day due to faulty posture during bike riding. Objective: To find out the prevalence of low back pain in occupational and non-occupational bike riders. Methods: This was a cross-sectional survey conducted on 200 bike riders who were professional as well as non-professional riders. Data were collected using Oswestry Questionnaire. Results: Results showed that 52.5% bike riders had low back pain, this was further divided on severity of pain, 32% have mild pain on the movement, 11% experienced moderate pain, 5% bike riders experienced fairly severe pain during movement, 3% of the bike riders have very severe pain at movement, where as 1% of the bike riders are those whose pain worst imaginable at the movement. Conclusions: This study sums up that prevalence of low back pain is higher among occupational and non-occupational bike riders who were exposed to bike riding five or more hours a day. This also had a high effect on their sitting, standing, managing self-care and traveling. This study concluded that more than 52.5% bike riders had low back pain.
Background: COVID-19 is essentially an illness brought about by corona virus. COVID-19 is transmitted primarily by close contact between infected individuals. COVID-19 has been related to myalgia and general weakness in one-quarter to one- portion of suggestive patients. Aim: To recognize the number of Covid-19 recovered patients who at present complain of musculoskeletal impairments. Methods: This was an observational study in which 181 covid-19 recovered patients were surveyed. Data was collected from different hospitals of Pakistan, through self-made questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS version 21. Results: After the collection of data, gender differences exist in musculoskeletal disorders after comparison of both genders with age group 20 to 50 years with 48% are males 58% are females and pie chart shows prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among covid-19 recovered patients. According to the findings, around 35% of 181 healed patients (with pain in their body parts) have seen a doctor in the last 6 months, while 65% have not visited a hospital to consult a doctor for MSK disease Practical Implication: Musculoskeletal impairments are leading cause of pain and disability that can lead to deformity if remain untreated or left without prior notice. As Covid-19 infection rate is getting higher day by day and till date vaccination is not available to everyone here. We must ensure that anyone getting infected by the novel Corona can have least negative effects even after patients get cured. Conclusion: Gender differences exist in musculoskeletal problems. We have to compare it with Covid.
