Resumo AbstractQuality assessment of Eucalyptus grandis seedlings using morphological parameters. The present work had as objective determines the index of Dickson's quality (IDQ) and its relation to the morphologic variables in Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex Maiden seedlings produced in different treatments. The experiment was driven in the agronomic nursery of the Center of Superior Education North of Rio Grande do Sul (CESNORS), in experimental design of randomized complete block. Four treatments were tested, that involved two volumes sizes (50 and 90 cm³) and two levels of density of plants in the tray. It evaluated height of the aerial part, diameter of the lap, mass dries of leaves, mass dries of the stem, mass dries of the aerial part, mass dries of root, mass total drought (MST), foliar area (AF) and the index of Dickson's quality (IDQ). The size of the containers and the density of the seedlings in the tray had significant influence in growth of the seedlings along the time, putting limits to the volume of exploitable substratum and generating competition for space by the plants. All the appraised variables correlated significantly and IDQ revealed high index with MST. The treatments with container of volume 90 cm³ were the ones that presented the best IQD, resulting in seedlings of good quality capable to support the adverse conditions of the field.

RESUMO -A produção de fitomassa é uma função da eficiência de conversão da radiação solar fotossinteticamente ativa interceptada em fotoassimilados, variando conforme as condições em que as plantas são cultivadas. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo quantificar a eficiência de conversão da radiação solar fotossinteticamente ativa interceptada em fitomassa -εb -de mudas de Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex Maiden (eucalipto) quando submetidas a diferentes tamanhos de tubetes e densidades de plantas. Para tanto, foi conduzido um experimento, em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, para estudar a produção de mudas em dois tamanhos de tubetes (pequeno e médio) e duas densidades de plantas na bandeja (alta com 100% de ocupação da bandeja e média com 50%), em que foram determinados a radiação fotossinteticamente ativa interceptada (RFAi), o índice de área foliar e a fitomassa seca total das mudas. O volume do tubete não interferiu nos valores de eficiência, mas, sim, a densidade de plantas, pois o índice de área foliar é quem determina tal valor. A εb foi de 7,33 g.MJ -1 em tubete médio e pequeno em densidade alta e de 3,26 g.MJ -1 em tubete médio e pequeno em densidade média.Palavras-chave: Ocupação da bandeja, Densidade de plantio e Radiação fotossinteticamente ativa. Nas últimas décadas, os plantios de teca têm alcançado destaque no setor florestal brasileiro, contudo, o manejo da espécie é, ainda, por vezes baseado em conhecimentos insuficientes e inadequados, visto que apresenta, em geral, crescimento superior no continente americano, o que dificulta estabelecer comparações entre os regimes de manejo praticados no mundo e os resultados das práticas silviculturais em locais com características edafoclimáticas distintas. Com isso, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi reunir as informações contidas nas principais pesquisas científicas conduzidas em diferentes localidades no mundo aptas ao cultivo da teca, visando, dessa forma, padronizar o conhecimento silvicultural e de manejo da espécie, bem como gerar perspectivas futuras para a condução de maciços florestais no Brasil. Observa-se, atualmente, no mercado nacional e internacional, que as plantações de teca são consideradas alternativas rentáveis e sustentáveis à exploração de espécies nativas para a obtenção de madeira de uso nobre e para diversos outros fins, tornandoa destaque na balança comercial do setor florestal brasileiro e uma oportunidade na conquista de mercados exigentes por produtos florestais de qualidade. RESUMOA eficiência de conversão da radiação solar em fitomassa é uma variável frequentemente utilizada em modelos de simulação do crescimento das culturas, pois a produção de biomassa está relacionada com a eficiência com que uma planta converte energia radiante em química, dada pelo processo da fotossíntese. Dessa maneira, o objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a eficiência de conversão da radiação solar fotossinteticamente ativa interceptada (RFAi) em fitomassa aérea de Ilex paraguariensis, cultivada em consórcio (Ilex paraguariensis A. St. Hil. e Pinus elliottii Engelm) e solteira. Para tanto, foram determinados a radiação solar fotossinteticamente ativa interceptada (RFAi), o índice de área foliar e a fitomassa seca das erveiras sob sombreamento e a pleno sol, sendo então, a eficiência de conversão da RFAi em fitomassa seca produzida calculada por meio da relação entre a produção de fitomassa acumulada e a RFAi envolvida. Para um mesmo valor de radiação RFAi, obteve-se maior eficiência de uso da radiação no acúmulo em matéria seca aérea de Ilex paraguariensis cultivada em consórcio. A eficiência de conversão (εb) de fitomassa seca aérea de plantas de Ilex paraguariensis em relação à quantidade de radiação solar fotossinteticamente ativa interceptada acumulada foi de 0,83 g MJ -1 no sistema consórcio e de 0,23 g MJ -1 no sistema solteiro. Apesar disso, a produção de fitomassa aérea por planta de erva-mate foi maior no sistema solteiro. Palavras-chave: fitomassa; eficiência fotossintética; consórcio. RESUMO -Este trabalho teve como objetivo determinar o poder calorífico superior (PCS) das árvores e a massa específica básica ponderada (ρ b pond ) da madeira de Acacia mearnsii De Wild, Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex Maiden, Mimosa scabrella Benth e Ateleia glazioviana Baill distribuídas em diferentes espaçamentos em plantio: 2,0 x 1,0 m; 2,0 x 1,5 m; 3,0 x 1,0 m; e 3,0 x 1,5 m, nas idades de 1 e 3 anos. O estudo foi conduzido em um experimento localizado no Município de Frederico Westphalen, RS, em delineamento experimental de blocos completos casualizados com três repetições, no esquema de parcelas subdivididas. A determinação do PCS das árvores foi realizada a partir da ponderação dos valores obtidos em cada compartimento (madeira, casca, galho e folha), por meio de bomba calorimétrica. A determinação da ρ b pond foi realizada a partir da ponderação dos valores verificados dos discos coletados em diferentes posições ao longo do tronco, usando-se o método da balança hidrostática e massa seca. O PCS de todas as espécies no primeiro ano após o plantio foi superior ao do terceiro ano, destacando-se a Acacia mearnsii com as maiores médias. A ρ b pond não apresentou tendência sistemática de aumento ou redução ao longo do tempo e as espécies Acacia mearnsii e Ateleia glazioviana, os maiores valores. Os diferentes espaçamentos de plantio não induziram a variação do PCS e da ρ b pond nas espécies estudadas, não sendo verificada tendência sistemática positiva ou negativa em relação ao espaço vital proporcionado pelo espaçamento.Palavras-chave: Propriedade da madeira; Energia da biomassa; Espaçamento de plantio. Background: The traditional method used to estimate tree biomass is allometry. In this method, models are tested and equations fitted by regression usually applying ordinary least squares, though other analogous methods are also used for this purpose. Due to the nature of tree biomass data, the assumptions of regression are not always accomplished, bringing uncertainties to the inferences. This article demonstrates that the Data Mining (DM) technique can be used as an alternative to traditional regression approach to estimate tree biomass in the Atlantic Forest, providing better results than allometry, and demonstrating simplicity, versatility and flexibility to apply to a wide range of conditions. Results: Various DM approaches were examined regarding distance, number of neighbors and weighting, by using 180 trees coming from environmental restoration plantations in the Atlantic Forest biome. The best results were attained using the Chebishev distance, 1/d weighting and 5 neighbors. Increasing number of neighbors did not improve estimates. We also analyze the effect of the size of data set and number of variables in the results. The complete data set and the maximum number of predicting variables provided the best fitting. We compare DM to Schumacher-Hall model and the results showed a gain of up to 16.5 % in reduction of the standard error of estimate. Conclusion: It was concluded that Data Mining can provide accurate estimates of tree biomass and can be successfully used for this purpose in environmental restoration plantations in the Atlantic Forest. This technique provides lower standard error of estimate than the Schumacher-Hall model and has the advantage of not requiring some statistical assumptions as do the regression models. Flexibility, versatility and simplicity are attributes of DM that corroborates its great potential for similar applications.

RESUMOO estudo do crescimento e desenvolvimento de plantas em diferentes ambientes oferece respostas sobre as melhores condições para as espécies serem cultivadas. Objetivou-se avaliar o crescimento inicial até 80 dias em mudas de Schizolobium parahyba (guapuruvu) submetidas aos níveis de sombreamento: 0% (pleno sol), 30, 50 e 70%. Os resultados demonstram que o sombreamento interferiu positivamente no crescimento em altura das mudas, apresentando tendência nos maiores níveis, não causando danos às plantas, fato comprovado pela não diferença das variáveis: matéria seca, diâmetro de colo e número de pares de folhas. É favorável a produção de mudas com qualidade até o 45 o dia de submissão ao sombreamento, devendo ser transplantadas após esse período. Palavras-chave: guapuruvu; luminosidade. ABSTRACTThe study of the growth and development of a plant under different environmental conditions offers the researcher a good clue as to which are the best conditions to grow a particular species. The main objective was to evaluate the initial growth, for up to 80 days, for of Schizolobium parahyba (guapuruvu) seedlings submitted to the shading levels: 0% (full sunshine), 30%, 50% and 70% shading. The results demonstrate that the shading interfered positively in the growth in height of the seedlings, even at the greatest levels, and did not cause damage to the plants, which was proven by the lack of differences in the variables: dry matter, lap diameter and number of pairs of leaves. The production of quality seedlings is favorable up to the 45th day of submission to shading, after which seedlings should be transplanted.
