The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth and yield of teak (Tectona grandis) stands at different spacing and in different soil classes. Twelve spacing were evaluated in an Inceptisol and Oxisol, in plots with an area of 1,505 or 1,548 m2, arranged in a completely randomized design with nine replicates. The teak trees were measured at 26, 42, 50, and 78 months of age. Total tree height was less affected by spacing. Mean square diameter was greater in wider spacing, whereas basal area and total volume with bark were greater in closer spacing. An increase in volume with bark per tree was observed with the increase of useful area per plant. For teak trees, growth stagnation happens earlier, the growth rate is higher in closer spacing, and the plants grow more in the Inceptisol than in the Oxisol.

RESUMOO objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o desempenho de diferentes modelos de afilamento para descrever a razão di/dap e o volume dos fustes. Os dados empregados pertencem a um povoamento de Tectona grandis L. f. localizado no estado do Pará, com idades variando entre quatro e cinco anos. Foram avaliados os modelos de Schöpfer, Kozak, Demaerschalk, Ormerod e Hradetzky. Os critérios de seleção para a escolha do modelo de melhor ajuste foram o Índice de Schlaegel (IA), erro padrão da estimativa (Syx%) e análise gráfica de resíduos, além das estatísticas complementares: desvio (D), média das diferenças absolutas (MD) e desvio padrão das diferenças (DPD). Com base nestas estatísticas, fez-se um ordenamento para classificar os melhores modelos. O modelo de Hradetzky se mostrou o mais adequado para estimar a razão di/dap. Para a estimativa do volume total dos fustes, o modelo de Demaerschalk foi o mais indicado, sendo que o de Hradetzky também apresentou bom desempenho. O modelo de Kozak apresentou os piores ajustes ao estimar ambas variáveis. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: afilamento, teca, volumetria. MODELING STEM PROFILE AND VOLUME OF Tectona grandis L. f. We used data from a Tectona grandis L. f. stand located in the Pará State, with ages varying between four and five years-old. Five taper function were evaluated: Schöpfer, Kozak, Demaerschalk, Ormerod, and Hradetzky. Termites of the species Cornitermes cumulans (Kollar, 1832) were observed causing injuries in the stem of Tectona grandis in commercial forest plantations in Cáceres, Mato Grosso state, Brazil. C. cumulans forms galleries below the bark, at the heartwood/sap-wood interface of 1.8 years-old trees. This is the first occurrence of this type of injury in stem caused by C. cumulans in T. grandis in Brazil.
