High molecular weight polyaniline (PANI) was synthesized by a combined procedure incorporating various synthesis methods. Temperature and open circuit potential of the reaction mixture were collected to monitor the reaction progress. The polymer is characterized by various techniques including gel permeation chromatography, dynamic light scattering, infrared spectroscopy, solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance, and differential scanning calorimetry for elucidating the molecular architecture obtained by this method. As‐synthesized PANI was found to possess high molecular weight, reduced branching, reduced cross‐linking, and to predominantly consist of linear polymer chains. This polymer was also found to be more stable in solution form. J–V characteristics of as‐synthesized PANI films indicate a high current density which is due to increased free pathways and less traps for the charge transport to occur in PANI films. POLYM. ENG. Plant-derived nanoparticles have multi-functionalities owing to their ecological origin and biocompatible nature. A novel and stable silver nanoparticle (AgNP) was reported here using Cyanthillium cinereum (C. cinereum) as a reducing as well as capping agent by rapid microwave-assisted green method. The synthesized nanoparticles revealed their crystalline and spherical nature with an average size of 19.25 ± 0.44 nm in HR-TEM analysis. The excitation of electrons from occupied d-bands to states above the Fermi level while employing photoluminescence studies of AgNP indicated their awesome optical properties. Rapid decomposition of dangerous organic dyes like methylene blue and fuchsine in the catalytic presence of AgNP was evidenced from simple UV-visible spectral analysis. In vitro antioxidant potential assessed by DPPH assay indicated an IC 50 value of 40.80 ± 0.14 lg/mL for the new AgNP. A substantial control on the growth of pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumonia can be achieved by synthesized nanoparticles as demonstrated by the well diffusion method. AgNP was also functioned as a non-enzymatic electrochemical sensor with a sharp oxidation peak with peak potentials at 0.366 V and it has a wide application as a bio sensor in neurobiology especially in the detection of neurotransmitters like dopamine with high sensitivity.

Polyaniline functionalized with imidazole as strategically designed receptor group in its backbone was synthesized for copper binding. The synthesized polymer has been characterized using FTIR, NMR, and UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques. The addition of copper (II) to the polymer distinctly changes the properties such as crystallinity, molecular weight, aggregation, and electronic properties. XRD, DLS, SEM, and four-point probe techniques have been used for study of these changes. It is observed that the secondary ion generated as a result of copper coordination results in the doping of the polyaniline backbone, which enhances the conductivity by one order of magnitude.

Glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) and carbon paste electrodes (CPE) were modified with imidazole functionalized polyaniline with the aim to develop a sensor for lead (II) in both acidic and basic aqueous solution. The electrodes were characterized by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetry. The limit of detections obtained with glassy carbon electrode and carbon paste electrode are 20 ng mL -1 and 2 ng mL -1 of lead ion, respectively. An interference study was carried out with Cd (II), As(III), Hg(II) and Co(II) ions. Cd(II) ions interfere significantly (peak overlap) and As(III) has a depressing effect on the lead signal. The influence of pH was investigated indicating that bare and modified GCE and CPE show optimum response at pH 4.0 ± 0.05.
