This article aims to analyze how three districts of Ouro Preto – Cachoeira do Campo, Glaura and São Bartolomeu – were portrayed in the diaries of foreign travelers who visited the region in the 19th century and to assess the continuities of the aspects related to heritage. Travel literature is an important historical source that enables the analysis of the social structure, natural aspects and heritage of localities. All travelers in their diaries highlighted the urban formation of the places they passed, with the streets around the churches. This also allowed glimpses of intangible manifestations that are still part of the affective memory of their populations and are important records of the heritage of the locations, such as the feasts of patron saints and festivals that still take place around the old churches. We sought to interpret the heritage of the localities and it was possible to identify that the cultural heritage of the three districts, which was portrayed in the travel diaries, is permeated by material and symbolic elements that are inseparable and still resist. Keywords: travel literature; cultural heritage; memory; districts of Ouro Preto; Minas Gerais.
