Este estudo buscou analisar a relação existente entre a Consciência ambiental, a Atitude e a Intenção de compras de produtos orgânicos na perspectiva dos alunos universitários, nas classes altruístas e egoístas. Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa com 284 estudantes universitários de duas Faculdades particulares de Belo Horizonte. O presente estudo é de cunho descritivo com abordagem quantitativa. Os resultados demonstraram que, em geral, os consumidores pertencentes à classe altruísta possuem maiores médias nos três construtos Consciência, Atitude e Intenção de compra de produtos orgânicos. Todavia as diferenças observadas na amostra nem sempre puderam ser estendidas para a população. Por outro lado, tanto o modelo de regressão múltipla, quanto a modelagem de equações estruturais, demonstraram a maior influência da atitude do consumidor sobre a intenção de compra de produtos orgânicos. A Consciência ambiental teve influência sobre a Atitude e esta impactou diretamente sobre a Intenção de compra. Todavia, a Consciência ambiental não apresentou influência sobre a Intenção de compra e, quando tal relação foi considerada no modelo, implicou na diminuição da influência da Atitude sobre a Intenção de compra de produtos orgânicos. As instâncias que cuidam dos interesses dos produtos orgânicos e da sustentabilidade do planeta devem focar a atitude favorável das pessoas para tais tipos de produtos, já que tal atitude demonstrou o maior impacto sobre a intenção do consumo.
