Objetivos: verificar o efeito de 12 semanas de treinamento na pressão arterial (PA) de idosos. Materiais e métodos: para tanto, 24 idosos (67,3 ± 5,4 anos) de ambos os sexos, normotensos e hipertensos, foram divididos, aleatoriamente, em grupo aeróbio (n=10) e grupo combinado (n=14). O grupo aeróbio realizou exercícios na água (hidroginástica) um dia por semana durante 50 min.; o grupo combinado acrescentou em seu treinamento três seções semanais de exercícios resistidos com duração de 40 min. O comportamento da pressão arterial sistólica (PAS), pressão arterial diastólica (PAD), frequência cardíaca (FC) e duplo produto (DP) foram verificados em repouso, antes e após o período de treinamento.
