Membership in scientific societies increases the odds of a high level of social competence fivefold in the es scale and fourfold in the a scale. Physicians involved in the education of medical students were less likely to obtain medium and high scores (5 stens) in the a scale. an increase in seniority in the last workplace is accompanied by a 0.93 times lower probability of obtaining a high competence score in the a scale. similarly, third cycle degree studies increase the odds of achieving high competence level by 7.48 times in the a scale. Conclusions. low levels of competence can be expected from physicians with less seniority, not belonging to scientific societies, not involved in students' education, working in only one place, and not participating in third cycle degree studies. Materiały i metody: W badaniu wzięło udział 100 chorych, 42 kobiety i 58 mężczyzn (55,78 ±11,68 lat) operowanych z powodu raka płaskonabłonkowego jamy ustnej. Chorzy uczestniczyli w rehabilitacji funkcji jamy ustnej. Osoby te miały mniejsze zaufanie do siebie i większą potrzebę uzyskania porady w celu dokonania zmian w życiu.Wnioski: Na różnych etapach rehabilitacji znaczenie mają odmienne właściwości osobowości pacjentów. Szczególnego wsparcia wymagają chorzy doświadczający większego zniekształcenia pooperacyjnego. Ocena psychologiczna ułatwia wyłonienie z grupy rehabilitowanych chorych osób wymagających silniejszego wsparcia w zakresie budowania motywacji do rehabilitacji czynnościowej oraz rozwijania umiejętności społecznych ułatwiających adaptację do choroby.

Introduction: Social competencies are an important aspect of a physician's work. These skills facilitate building doctorpatient relationships, conducting culturally competent medical interviews, fostering the realization of diagnostic as well as therapeutic tasks, and enhancing the physician's well-being. The work aimed at recognizing the social competencies of medical students with consideration of the cultural aspect. Materials and methods:The theoretical background for the analysis of social competencies was the concept of Transcultural Positive Psychotherapy proposed by Nossrat Peseschkian, and describing actual capabilities, recognized in this work as competencies. The study involved 133 students of the Medical Faculty, Medical University in Wroclaw -47 from the Polish Division and 86 from English Division. The Wiesbaden Inventory for Positive Psychotherapy and Family Therapy (WIPPF2) was used as a research tool. Results: Most actual capabilities in the group under study were properly differentiated (balanced). Students identified themselves most strongly with hope, politeness, love, reliability and justice. In comparison to students of the English Division, Polish students identified themselves the least with the capabilities of order, politeness, obedience, faithfulness, patience and contact, and the most with reliability. Women put more importance on politeness, justice, trust and faith/sense than men did. Students that were in partnerships valued openness/honesty, contact, tenderness/sexuality, love and hope more than single respondents. Conclusions: It is recommended to incorporate cultural knowledge in the education of Polish medical students, as well as to encourage the mindset of openness and curiosity towards the cultural determinants of patients' health. Keywords: social competence; doctor-patient relationship; medical students. ABSTRAKT Wstęp: Kompetencje społeczne są istotnym elementem pracy lekarzy.
