A aceitação e rejeição social tem sido relacionada a diferentes habilidades sociais mas sua relação com comportamento social não verbal não foi investigada. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar o poder preditivo das habilidades sociais aferidas por autorrelato e dos comportamentos sociais não verbais avaliados pelos pares enquanto explicativas da aceitação e rejeição em estudantes universitários para sair e estudar. Participaram da pesquisa 128 estudantes universitários com idades entre 18 e 51 anos. Utilizouse o Inventário de Habilidades Sociais e um protocolo sociométrico incluindo as justificativas das escolhas a partir da avaliação dos comportamentos não verbais do grupo. Dentre os resultados, o comportamento não verbal tende a explicar mais variabilidade da aceitação e da rejeição social neste âmbito em comparação à medidas de autorrelato; existem diferenças em condutas que provocam aceitação e que minimizam rejeição; houve diferenças por série dos elementos que explicam a aceitação e rejeição social.
