Through the influence of Social History, this study seeks to debate the paradigm shifts of child care, embodied from elements forged in the core of debates about race relationships in Brazil, as a way to understand the "agencies" of these families, especially single women who decoded norms, followed the growth and negotiated the rescue of the children, at an age considered productive, with domain of the first letters and endowed with training for work.
