Des citations des Psaumes dans les inscriptions des monastères de Saqqarah et Baouît Les psaumes occupent une place centrale dans la liturgie chrétienne et par extension dans la culture monastique. Dans la région thébaine, des dizaines et des dizaines d'ostraca découverts dans des établissements religieux ont ainsi conservé des extraits, plus ou moins longs ou travaillés, du texte psalmique (1). Ces documents, tantôt aide-mémoire, tantôt exercices d'écriture, témoignent de l'importance du livre biblique dans les ermitages et couvents d'Égypte. L'épigraphie fournit également des attestations de psaumes en contexte monastique. Ces inscriptions, destinées à nourrir les prières des moines, permettaient pour ainsi dire de matérialiser, sous forme écrite, ce texte essentiel dans la liturgie et la spiritualité monastique. On peut en citer des exemples aux Kellia (2), au Deir Sombat (3), au Deir Abou Fana (4), à Baouît (5) et près d'un ermitage au sommet de la Vallée des Reines (6).
