L'habitat de plein air de La Clairière à La Roque-sur-Pernes (Vaucluse) est situé à 25 km à l'est d'Avignon sur la rive gauche du vallon du Fraischamp. Découvert dans les années 1940, ce site a fait l'objet de fouilles méthodiques entre 1979 et 1986. Les recherches se sont concentrées dans une zone d'environ 100 m2 dont la physionomie est bien marquée; il s'agit d'une petite dépression en pente vers le nord-est, limitée par un grand bloc effondré de la falaise. Les fouilles ont mis au jour des témoins de plusieurs occupations : Néolithique ancien (Cardial), Néolithique final, Chalcolithique (Campaniforme), Bronze ancien et Bronze final. La présente étude ne concerne que les occupations du Néolithique final datées de 2540 ± 120 BC et 2460 ± 150 BC, dont les vestiges sont les plus abondants. Les structures se rattachant à ces occupations se limitent à deux fosses et à une structure à double parement et n'ont pas permis, à ce stade de l'étude, de comprendre l'organisation et la place que ce secteur occupait dans l'habitat. En ce qui concerne le mobilier, si les industries lithiques et osseuses sont comparables à celles que l'on rencontre habituellement sur les sites provençaux du Néolithique final-Chalcolithique, la parure et surtout la céramique ont des caractéristiques très particulières. Les formes et les décors céramiques de ce site comportent à la fois des éléments empruntés au fonds néolithique final provençal avec des traits plus marqués rappelant davantage les styles céramiques peu décorés du nord du Vaucluse et du sud de la Drôme, et également, de nombreux éléments décoratifs empruntés à la culture de Ferrières. Toutefois, ces influences assimilées et adaptées ont abouti à une production céramique originale dont certains traits morphologiques et décoratifs se retrouvent dans d'autres sites vauclusiens nous amenant ainsi à distinguer un nouveau groupe stylistique : le groupe du Fraischamp.
