Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar o contexto arqueológico da tumba do Mergulhador (Tuffatore) de Paestum: esta tumba, única do mundo grego, faz parte de um certo modo de ocupação do território de Poseidonia nas épocas arcaica e clássica. Suas pinturas apresentam um paradoxo: os elementos gregos são usados de uma maneira inconcebível para um grego. A cultura material nos permite ressaltar o caráter misto da população de Poseidonia e o contexto arqueológico é utilizado para propor uma origem possível para as anomalias encontradas na iconografia representada.
Afin de mieux comprendre les processus interculturels et, en parallèle, de réfléchir à nos modèles méthodologiques, il s’agit ici d’analyser les relations interculturelles et politiques à partir de l’étude des colonies grecques d’Italie du Sud et de Sicile, avec une attention particulière portée à la nature et aux formes de relations réciproques entre milieu colonial grec et milieu indigène. Le premier aspect de notre travail consiste à mettre en exergue la nature de certaines dynamiques mixtes des rencontres coloniales, tout autant « internes » qu’« externes ». Ce qui se traduit par une ébauche des modes d’élaboration de l’identité grecque en milieu colonial. Le dernier volet est celui d’une « archaeology of encounter ». Dans cette perspective, on analyse certains vestiges archéologiques provenant de quelques nécropoles du territoire de Poseidonia datées de la période d’hégémonie lucanienne, c’est-à-dire de la fin du V e siècle av. J.-C. jusqu’au premier quart du III e av. J.-C.
Em uma seqüência do filme de Fellini, Encólpio, o protagonista, discute com Eumolpo, o poeta, em uma sala chamada Galeria de Arte (Pinacoteca, em italiano). Nesta sala, a decoração é composta por trabalhos de arte antiga, na grande maioria pinturas vindas de Pompéia e da região do Vesúvio. Esse artigo trata de uma das imagens da Galeria de Arte, a reprodução da pintura da tumba do Mergulhador. O objetivo é, em primeiro lugar, enfatizar o caráter excepcional das pinturas para, em um segundo momento, comentar como a iconografia se adequou aos objetivos de Fellini.

RESUMO:No final do século XIX, F. J. Turner estudou a história do Oeste americano e propôs analisar a conquista de terras como um processo: uma fronteira que se move em direção ao Oeste e que diz respeito não somente ao aspecto militar, mas também os processos sociais e econômicos. Depois de retomar as principais ideias do conceito de frontier history, proponho integrar algumas novas abordagens sobre colonização conhecidas como pós-colonialismo. A terceira parte constitui uma análise de um caso de estudo: uma colônia grega do sul da Itália, Síbaris. Argumento que certos conceitos modernos podem ser usados como uma ferramenta operacional para interpretar dados arqueológicos, desde que o contexto históri-co da cultura material seja observado atentivamente.
