Maksimum ötelenme talebi hesabı için kullanılabilecek en genel ve doğru yöntem, yapısal sistemlerin üç boyutlu ve doğrusal olmayan zaman tanım alanında analizidir. Ancak bu yöntemin karmaşıklığı ve zorluğu sebebiyle, maksimum ötelenme talebinin tahmini için daha basit ve güvenilir analiz yöntemlerine ihtiyaç duyulmuştur. Bu basit yöntemlerden birisi statik itme analizi ile üç boyutlu yapısal sisteme ait kapasite eğrisinin (toplam taban kesme kuvveti ve yatay çatı ötelenmesi ilişkisi) elde edilmesidir [7]. Üç boyutlu yapısal sisteme ait kapasite eğrisi bilgileri kullanılarak bu sistemi temsil eden eşdeğer tek serbestlik dereceli (TSD) sistemin yük-deplasman ilişkisi elde edilmektedir. Statik itme analizinin kullanıldığı tüm yaklaşımlarda, üç boyutlu yapının maksimum ötelenme talebinin tahmini için bu yapıyı temsil eden eşdeğer TSD sistemin doğrusal olmayan analizi ile hesaplanan maksimum ötelenme talebi kullanılmaktadır.Literatürde TSD sistemler için doğrusal olmayan zaman tanım alanında analiz ile maksimum ötelenme talebinin tahminine yönelik birçok çalışma bulunmaktadır. Bazzurro ve Luco [8], farklı yatay dayanım oranı (yatay yük taşıma kapasitesinin deprem hesabına esas ağırlığa oranı) ve titreşim periyoduna sahip TSD sistemlerin doğrusal olmayan zaman tanım alanında analizleri için ölçeklendirilmemiş ve hedef spektrumla uyumlu olacak şekilde ölçeklendirilmiş gerçek ivme kaydı setlerini ayrı ayrı kullanmıştır. D'Ambrisi ve Mezzi [9] ile Ruiz-Garcia ve Miranda [10] TSD sistemlerin maksimum ötelenme talebinin tahmini amacıyla zaman tanım alanında analiz sonuçlarını kullanarak geliştirdikleri olasılıksal bir yaklaşım önermiştir. İnel ve diğ. [11], Türkiye'deki mevcut bina stoğunun bir kısmını temsil eden 2, 4 ve 7 katlı betonarme binaların üç boyutlu analiz modelleri ile bu binaların eşdeğer TSD modelleri için doğrusal olmayan dinamik analiz ile elde edilen çatı seviyesi ötelenme taleplerini kıyaslamıştır.
