Introduction: Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) has affected nursing staff and students mentally and physically due to their role in the frontline fighting the virus. However, data on the effect of COVID-19 on nursing students are limited and there have been no studies about Saudi nursing intern experience during this crisis. Aim: To explore the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on nursing students during their interns at hospitals and how they dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: A qualitative descriptive study was done where 12 interviews were conducted among nursing student at the Nursing Department in the College of Applied Medical Science at Taif University, Taif, Saudi Arabia. The study was conducted from January 01 to April 10, 2021. The descriptive method was used to collect, understand, organise and represent in depth data. All the nursing student participants were interns and started their intern programmes during the COVID-19 pandemic. All interviews were auto-recorded, transcribed and analysed using a thematic method. Results: The four themes which emerged from findings were: student plans during COVID-19; students’ perspectives of the nursing profession; intern students’ mental states; and hospital roles. Conclusion: While the virus may negatively affect the experience of nursing intern students, the support of the media and society towards nursing staff during the pandemic has encouraged them significantly. So this study recommended that nursing stakeholders collaborate with the media to create greater interaction and embrace the nursing profession for younger generations.

(1) Background: Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic mental disorder that can be a source of emotional, financial and/or social burden for family caregivers. Few studies have investigated family caregiving for patients diagnosed with OCD in relation to the coping strategies being used from a theoretical perspective. This study evaluated the burden and coping strategies of family caregivers for people diagnosed with OCD. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted, in which 123 participants diagnosed with OCD and their caregivers were surveyed using three types of scales: obsessive–compulsive scale; coping scale; and burden scale. (3) Results: Of the participants with OCD and their caregivers, 53% and 31% were male and 47% and 69% were female, respectively. Around 80% of the OCD patients were considered young and their age ranged from 20–40 years old. Forty percent of caregivers in the current study reported a high burden level. The caregivers of those who had severe OCD symptoms had a lower coping level compared to the caregivers of those with less severe symptoms and those urban caregivers were able to better cope than rural caregivers. There was an association between OCD symptom severity and financial, work-related, social and family relationships, mental and health burdens for family caregivers. Meanwhile, the greater coping level of family caregivers, the lesser social and family, mental, and spouse relationship burden (p < 0.05); (4) Conclusions: The family caregivers of people diagnosed with OCD have specific aspects of burden and coping which require support by designing strategic interventions for family caregiver coping.

Introduction: Emergency Departments (EDs) have been described as complex, dynamic and at high risk for medical errors. Factors affecting the risk of medical error in the ED are related to communication, triage and medication management and upto 3% of all medical errors in hospitals take place in the ED. Aim: To identify the factors affecting patients' safety in the EDs of two major hospitals in Taif city based on Occurrence Variance Reporting (OVR). Materials and Methods: The present study was a crosssectional retrospective study which was conducted from January 2018 to October 2020 at King Abdul-Aziz Specialist Hospital (KAASH) and from October 2018 to October 2020 at King Faisal Medical Complex (KFMC) in Taif city, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The OVR data included six variables including category of OVR, name of hospital, year of OVR, type of report, who made the OVR and action taken by the hospitals, and was analysed using International Business Machines (IBM) Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Results: This study found that 3,632 OVR reports were collected. Nearly two-thirds of all OVRs were associated with nursing care management issues, followed by identification/ document/consent issues (9.4%), medical equipment issues (5.5%), housekeeping issues (0.2%) and laundry service (0.1%) representing the lowest frequency of OVR. Unsafe conditions accounted for 75.17% (2,730) of all OVR reports and only 24.83% (902) were incident reports. Staff nurses reported a majority of reports (89.5%), with 10.5% of OVRs reported by other healthcare workers. The primary actions taken by the hospitals in response to these reports were detection (72.3%) and prevention (17.4%), while only 10.3% was corrected. Conclusion: Patient safety is the primary challenge faced by healthcare providers at hospitals. Thus, OVR is a very important tool in order to avoid errors and limit harms ensuring healthcare quality and safety delivery.

Objective: To identify the level of perceived organisational transparency among healthcare providers working for the Ministry of Health. Methodology: Four hundred and twenty participants in three ministry of health facilities were surveyed using a descriptive cross-sectional correlational design and validated survey data. Results: The total average of all responses on all items of the organisational transparency was 3.37± 0.66. Organisational transparency was perceived by nurses more than physicians and allied healthcare providers. The old participants perceive their organisation as transparent more than younger participants. The participants in all the four education categories: Diploma, Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate, were homogeneous about their responses on the organisational transparency. There were substantial gender variations in the means of the participants' replies. Females perceived their organisation to be transparent more than males as the mean of their responses were (3.46) and (3.12), respectively. Conclusion: The study emphasizes the importance of organisational transparency and strategic understanding in enhancing and promoting the organisational readiness to change. Leaders should make efforts to communicate the change plan and strategies to all employees focusing more on employees understanding of those strategies.
