Cet article revient sur la nature et la nécessité du risque, éléments souvent négligés dans les codes éthiques. Selon l’auteur, certaines mises en acte, parfois jugées contraires à l’éthique, sont en réalité répandues dans les dyades thérapeutiques et peuvent être considérées comme un facteur essentiel du processus thérapeutique. Par ailleurs, l’auteur soutient qu’une pratique éthique implique de « faire attention à la marche » qui sépare l’intention des conséquences, ce qui requiert une attention constante aux interactions co-transférentielles.

Pour travailler sur les parties les plus profondes et les plus intimes du self, il faut adapter le traitement afin qu’il corresponde au mouvement du client vers ces parties sacrées. D’après Eric Berne, cet espace est là où réside le véritable Soi du client, là où prennent place les moments de réelle intimité. Winnicott, lui, parlait d’une autre partie du self, plus privée. Pour concrétiser cette confidentialité, il l’a située dans le noyau en utilisant le terme « élément isolé ». Ces deux parties du self appellent différentes thérapies, et l’auteur explorera ici les caractéristiques de chacune d’elles. Un cas clinique montrera comment l’auteur et une de ses clientes ont pu créer le cadre thérapeutique qui a permis à la cliente de se réapproprier et de transformer ces parties de son self.
