Phytomass yield, nutrients accumulation and biological nitrogen fixation by single and associated green manuresAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of sole and intercropping systems of the summer green manures sunnhemp (Crotalaria juncea) and millet (Pennisetum americanum) in phytomass yield, content and accumulation of nutrients and biological nitrogen fixation (BNF). The experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replicates, and treatments consisted of green manures sunnhemp, millet, sunnhemp + millet and spontaneous vegetation. The sunnhemp stood out in the phytomass yield, being 108% greater than the spontaneous vegetation and 31% superior to millet. In the sunnhemp + millet intercropping, the leguminous contributed with 65% of the total dry matter. The presence of sunnhemp resulted in larger contents of N and Ca, while millet and the spontaneous vegetation showed larger content of potassium. The accumulation of P and Mg was strongly influenced by the phytomass yield, reaching high values in the presence of sunnhemp, while the accumulation of N and Ca was a result of the largest contents as well as the largest phytomass yield in the treatments with the leguminous. The BNF was 61% in the intercropping and 57% in sole cropping, incorporating to soil via BNF 89 and 173 kg/ha of N, respectively, being an excellent strategy for increasing soil nitrogen.

Aggregation, carbon and nitrogen in soil aggregates under no-tillage with crop-livestock integrationAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the stability of aggregates, light organic matter content (LOM), distribution of total organic carbon (TOC) and nitrogen (N) contents, and natural abundance of 13 C and 15 N in aggregates of a clayed Oxisol under no-tillage (NT) with crop-livestock integration (CLI), in comparison to an area under NT without CLI, and an area of natural Cerrado, in Montividiu, GO, Brazil. Soil samples were collected at the layers of 0-5 and 5-10 cm, in a completely randomized block design. The mass distribution of aggregates, mean weight diameter (MWD), geometric mean diameter (GMD), and LOM were evaluated, and the levels of TOC, N, δ 13 C and δ 15N aggregates were quantified. The Cerrado area had the highest values of MWD, GMD and LOM. The NT-CLI showed higher values of MWD, GMD, TOC, N and LOM in the layer of 5-10 cm than the area of NT without brachiaria. The NT-CLI increased the indices of soil aggregation (0-5 and 5-10 cm), the levels of LOM (5-10 cm), TOC and N (0-5 cm) and the formation of water-stable aggregates (5-10 cm) in comparison to the NT without palisade grass.
Commonly N release from legume residues is rapid in the tropics. Legume mixtures with grasses can result in slower nutrient release from residues, better matching the N requirements of the following crop. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of the green manures sunnhemp (Crotalaria juncea) and millet (Pennisetum glaucum), alone or mixed, on the performance of a subsequent maize crop with and without the application of N-fertilizer. The experiment consisted of four randomized blocks, with split plots. The plot treatments consisted of previous cultivation of sunnhemp, millet, mixed sunnhemp+millet and weeds. The subplot treatments were 90 kg N ha -1 and absence of N-fertilizer. Substantial amounts of biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) nitrogen were present in above ground parts of sunnhemp alone (173 kg ha -1 ) and mixed with millet (89 kg ha -1 ). Decay rates showed that half of the N was released 15 and 22 days from sunnhemp and sunnhemp+millet residues, respectively. The difference was attributed to temporary immobilization due to the higher C/N ratio of sunnhemp+millet. The preceding sunnhemp+millet treatment resulted in a larger maize yield than sunnhemp alone, when no N-fertilizer was applied. This effect was not observed when N-fertilizer was added. This effect may be due to a more timely N release, compared to sunnhemp and millet alone, when available N is required for maize. Nitrogen budgets showed that 15% and 10% in maize grain N was recovered from BNF for sunnhemp alone and sunnhemp+millet respectively. The recovery of N-BNF by maize was 65% higher after sunnhemp+millet than after sunnhemp monocrop.
DC -DC step-up converters for high-output voltage applications typically demand high voltage devices, leading to high conduction and switching losses. This identified demand has motivated research on active clamping and multi-level topologies. On this context, this study presents the study of a novel DC -DC boost converter with three-level boost-type active clamping, zero-voltage switching (ZVS) soft-switching and constant frequency pulse-width modulation. As shown analytically and through experimental results, high efficiency and reduced voltage ratings for the power semiconductors are achieved, thus, making the topology suitable for converters requiring high-output DC voltage. Furthermore, a topological modification for achieving ZVS operation in all semiconductors and other types of switching cells for boost-type converters is introduced.
Palavras-chave: Carbono orgânico do solo, sistemas de manejo, substâncias húmicas, Latossolo, cerrado AbstractThe aim of this study was to evaluate the total organic carbon and the chemical (humic acid -FAH, fulvic acid -FAF, humin -Hum) and textural (organic carbon associated particles -COp, organic carbon associated with minerals -COam and carbon management index -IMC) of soil organic matter (SOM) in samples of an Oxisol under no-tillage (NT) with crop-livestock integration (ILP), compared to one NT area without ILP and areas of natural Cerrado (CE) and pasture (PA) in southwestern Goiás. Soil samples were collected in the 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 and 20-40 cm in a completely randomized design. Among the cultivated areas the ILP presented in the upper soil layers the highest COT, COp, COam, Hum C-FAH/C-FAF and respect, having been checked in COT, COp, and COam Hum similar to those quantified in CE area in the deeper layers of the soil. In some depths evaluated, areas of NT and ILP
The objective of this study was to evaluate the total organic carbon (TOC) and nitrogen content, and quantify the TOC and nitrogen stocks in land use systems in the Cerrado region of Goiás State, Brazil. A crop-livestock integration system (CLIS) was evaluated -(corn+brachiaria/beans/cotton/soya beans) and a no-tillage system (NTS) -(sunflower/millet/soya beans/corn). The vegetal coverage of the natural Cerrado, adjacent to the NTS and CLIS, was considered as the original soil condition. Soil samples were collected at layer depths of 0.
ABSTRACTThe objetive of this work was to compare times and application rates of triple superphosphate (TSF) and potassium chloride (KCl) with and without polymer coating on soybean yield performance in the cerrado environmental conditions. The experiment was conducted in Rio Verde, GO, in an Oxisol. Treatments were arranged in a randomized block design, in factorial 2x2x2+1. The first factor consisted by fertilizer TSF and KCl coated or not by polymer, the second by two doses of phosphorus and potassium (40 + 40 and 80 + 80 kg ha -1 P 2 O 5 and K 2 O, respectively), and the third by two times of application fertilizer (15 days before sowing and at sowing). It also includes a treatment control without fertilization. Biomass yield, grain yield and yield components were evaluated. There was a response to the application of fertilizer P and K in fresh mass production and productivity, with the absence of fertilizer detrimental to the development of soybean. The broadcast application of superphosphate and potassium chloride coated polymer 15 days before sowing promoted dry matter yield, number of pods per plant and grain yield of soybeans compared to conventional fertilizer. When applied at sowing, the conventional fertilizer and slow release fertilizers promoted the same dry matter yield and grain yield of soybeans.
