Laura Agustín afirma que considerar os elementos que a integram conduz a perceber que nos deparamos não com "a prostituição", mas com uma diversidade de trabalhos sexuais. E a lista é imensa, abarcando os desempenhados em bordéis, boates, bares, discos, saunas, linhas telefônicas eróticas, sexo virtual através da Internet, casas de massagem, serviços de acompanhantes, agências matrimoniais, hotéis, motéis, cinemas e revistas pornôs, filmes e vídeos, serviços de dominação e submissão/sado-masoquismo, prostituição na rua. No abstract

In this text I comment on recent discussions about sexual economies, human trafficking and the relationship between these problematics, considering new questions that are raised in the debate about them. I dialog with other articles published in this issue of the cadernos pagu, considering the results of studies conducted in Brazil and other Latin American countries. My comments focus on two issues that arose in the dialog between this work and the articles of Christian Groess Gren, Marcia Anita Sprandel, Kamala Kempadoo and Amalia Cabezas published in this volume. I first refer to the analytical possibilities and the limits of concepts such as sexual economies and sex markets. A second question relates to forms of governmentality articulated in the regimes for fighting human trafficking that affect these exchanges, particularly sexual work. The question is, in the fifteen years since the enactment of the Palermo Protocol, the most important supranational legal instrument related to this crime, what new issues appear in the analysis of these regimes and of their effects on sexual and economic exchanges?

In this article, I comment on some difficulties related to the building up of knowledge on human trafficking. I base myself on research experience carried out in Brazil and in Spain which shows the importance of mapping and locating the notions of the different interest groups involved, including those people whom it is expected to protect and help. I analyze methodological problems, discussing the effects of the validity of the different definitions of human trafficking in the production of data and documents. In conclusion, I take into consideration the distinctions between crime and the violation of human rights so as to reflect on one of the aspects present in the material: the distance between the perception of those technically considered to be victims of trafficking and the legal definitions of this crime.

In this article I examine how discursive divisions between commercial and non-commercial sex are produced in a context of heterosexual sex tourism in Fortaleza, in north-east Brazil. Here, notions of sexuality, `race', class and gender create a complex discursive framework for sexual encounters crucial to understanding the participation of local women from different social strata. These categories also have effects on the organization of the sex industry directed at tourism.

Em Fortaleza, uma das cidades vinculadas ao turismo sexual no Nordeste do Brasil, jovens mulheres das camadas baixas deixam o país com ou convidadas por turistas sexuais. Algumas se inserem na indústria do sexo na Europa. Outras, porém, a deixam, casando-se com europeus. Centrando-me em um universo de casais integrados por mulheres do Nordeste do Brasil e italianos, discuto as categorias de diferenciação que adquirem centralidade quando esses relacionamentos, iniciados em um terreno ambíguo da sexualidade, interesse econômico e romance no qual se misturam, são contextualizados na Itália. Analiso as implicações culturais, políticas e econômicas desse tipo de migração, refletindo sobre os significados adquiridos pela sexualidade tropical na migração para esse país do Norte.
