Sobre a "cidade latino-americana" como categoriaComo ocorre com a expressão "cultura latino-americana" e com a noção mesma de "América Latina", a idéia de "cidade latino-americana" mostrase de modo mais nítido quanto mais afastados estamos de qualquer referente real. Qual cidade caberia com clareza nesta categoria: Havana ou Caracas, Montevidéu ou México, Cuzco ou Buenos Aires? O que define uma delas dificilmente serve para a outra. E não se trata apenas de uma dificuldade que se apresenta entre realidades urbanas nacionais: como agrupar em uma mesma categoria Ouro Preto, São Paulo e Brasília, no Brasil, ou Cartagena das Índias e Bogotá, na Colômbia? Que espécie de "cidade latinoamericana" encarnaria cada uma delas? Que mapa pode ser delineado no conjunto? Se cada cidade apresenta qualidades distintas que dificultam sua integração, sem mais, numa categoria abrangente, seria absurdo tentar definir a cidade latino-americana por meio de um ideal de representação de um conjunto de características a ela atribuídas, como uma espécie de Frankstein urbano; tão absurdo seria o procedimento que ele poderia levar-nos rapidamente à conclusão de que a única cidade latino-americana realmente existente é Miami. Com efeito, a clássica indiferenciação da malha urbana norte-americana, visivelmente distinta de qualquer cidade latino-americana real, permitiu, no entanto, que nas últimas décadas se desenvolvessem
El artículo busca mostrar los diálogos del pensamiento urbano latinoamericano con un famoso debate antropológico, el del «continuo folk-urbano» de Robert Redfield y «la cultura de la pobreza» de Oscar Lewis. El impacto que Redfield y, más en general, las teorías de Chicago sobre el cambio social tuvieron en las teorías de la modernización latinoamericana es, por supuesto, bien conocido, así como también los trabajos de Lewis. Pero no se ha reflexionado lo suficiente sobre el significado de que todo el pensamiento urbano latinoamericano se haya desenvuelto, en el período que corre entre la Segunda Guerra y los años setenta, en el marco puesto por aquel debate. Y como la ciudad tuvo, en ese período, una sobredeterminación política y cultural evidente, revisar la conexión con aquel debate antropológico no supone solamente el análisis de un caso entre otros de circulación de las ideas científicas, sino la posibilidad de entrever, a través de la antropología, el espectro de figuraciones dentro del cual se movió entonces el pensamiento sobre la «ciudad latinoamericana».
<p>Durante el mes de noviembre del año 2014, la Facultad de Artes de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, organizó el I Encuentro Internacional sobre Historia Urbana, el cual se extendió por tres días y en el que académicos e investigadores pudieron intercambiar ideas y puntos de vista sobre problemas y oportunidades presentes en este campo del saber. La sesión final se configuró como un escenario abierto de debate y de intercambio directo de ideas, con el fin de complementar temas abordados a lo largo del encuentro o sugerir la discusión de tópicos hasta ahora no considerados.</p>
