Las ciencias sociales en Uruguay han tenido un desarrollo tardío en comparación con las de otros países de la región. La ciencia política uruguaya se institucionalizó recién a fines de la década del 80 cuando, en
RESUMENLa ciencia política uruguaya tuvo un desarrollo "tardío, intenso y asimétrico" (Garcé, 2005). Durante los últimos diez años, la intensidad se mantuvo. La disciplina siguió expandiéndose y diversificándose, convirtiéndose en una profesión cabal. En términos generales, las asimetrías reportadas en ese momento han tendido a corregirse. Al mismo tiempo, han aparecido nuevos desafíos y se han instalado debates intensos. En particular, estamos discutiendo cada vez más abiertamente sobre tendencias hegemónicas y amenazas al pluralismo académico. Otro asunto está requiriendo mayor examen y discusión: la tendencia a la "partidización" de los cientistas políticos.Palabras clave: Ciencia política, Uruguay, desarrollo institucional, pluralismo.
