Purpose The purpose of this paper is to know whether organizational citizenship behavior mediates the effects of personality, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach This research was conducted in the city of Makassar with the entire population being lecturer with the status from a permanent lecturer foundation. By using the Slovin formula, a sample of 295 respondents was obtained. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used as an inferential statistical analysis technique to test the hypothesis of the research. Findings The results of the study found the mediating effect (indirect effect) of variable organizational citizenship behavior was found in between personality, organizational commitment and job satisfaction on performance, which thus indicates that the higher the personality, organizational commitment and job satisfaction the higher the performance, and if mediated, organizational citizenship behavior is also higher. Originality/value Organizational citizenship behavior research has been conducted on student classroom and career success. Additionally, organizational citizenship behavior has been researched for a critical review of the theoretical and empirical literature, which has provided suggestions for future research. Thereby, on paper originality the variables shown to be used are personality, organization commitment, job satisfaction, organizational citizenship behavior, and performance. Furthermore, the method used in this research is the SEM. The investigation was performed at two private colleges in Indonesian Muslim University and Muhammadiyah University Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, where no studies were conducted on the same topic previously.
Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to investigate the mediation effect of customer satisfaction in the relationship between service quality, service orientation, and marketing mix strategy to customer loyalty, in a study in Telkomsel-Indonesia. The product used in this research will take the telecommunication service product categories with a number of products available in the market. In this research, the telecommunication service products of Telkomsel with various features as the research objects were studied. Design/methodology/approach -The population of this research is Telkomsel customers who use the products of Halo, As and Simpati, domiciled in Malang, 2016. Since it was impossible to get the exact number of customers, the population in this study is infinite. The study had a sample size of 200 respondents. This research uses the structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis techniques along with AMOS methods.Findings -The quality of service, service orientation, and strategy marketing mix applied by the company are not all variables can directly affect customer loyalty, but must first going through satisfaction. Which means that companies must first need to understand what the customer needs through variable service quality, service orientation, and marketing mix strategy so that the customers feel loyal when the level of satisfaction is resolved. The service quality provided by the telecommunications industry needs to be improved in order to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty of telecommunications services, especially for Telkomsel in Malang. Originality/value -Originality for this paper shows: mediation effect (using the Sobel test) customer satisfaction on the effect of service quality, service orientation and marketing mix strategy to customer loyalty; location of the study (no previous research for this relationship): telecommunication services in Malang, Indonesia.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between Job Design, Job Commitment and Organizational Culture with Human Resource Performance: a study of the construction services provided by national consultants. Design/methodology/approach The research population consisted of all employees of a national company offering consultation services, from four big Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises Contractors: PT. Yodya Karya Company, PT. Hutama Karya, PT. Adhy Karya, PT. Waskita Karya Referring to the approach to SEM modeling with an average population of 600 employees for each enterprises, the sample to be used as respondents consisted of 100 employees for each enterprises, and total 100×4 enterprises=400 samples. Findings The variables Organizational Culture and Job Design have a significant direct effect on Job Commitment. Likewise, the effect of Organizational Culture and Job Commitment on Human Resource Performance is also significant. However, a different result is shown in the result of the direct effect of the variable Job Design on the variable Human Resource Performance, which indicates that the variable Job Design does not have a significant direct effect on the variable Human Resource Performance. In other words, the intensity of the Job Design value will not affect the intensity level of Human Resource Performance. In addition, a mediating effect of the variable Job Commitment is found on the effect of Job Design and Organizational Culture on Human Resource Performance. Originality/value The use of Job Commitment to exercise a mediation effect on the relationship between the effect of Job Design and Organizational Culture on Human Resource Performance, and the research site (no previous research investigating this relationship).
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to know the effect of mediation of work motivation on the influence of job design and organizational culture on human resource performance. Design/methodology/approach The design of the study is the detailed planning used as a study guide that leads to the purpose of the study. The unit of analysis of this research is the expert and skilled labor of construction service actors working in the national consulting company PT. Yodya Karya (Persero) at the central level and branches spread over 11 branches in Indonesian territory. Data analysis method used is path analysis and Sobel test to test the indirect effect (mediation effect). Findings Based on the results of the analysis, several things can be concluded such as: there is a significant direct influence of work design on the performance of human resources and work motivation; there is a significant direct influence of organizational culture on work motivation and human resource performance; and there is a significant direct influence of work motivation on human resource performance. There is an indirect influence of work design on the performance of human resources through work motivation mediation variables. Meanwhile, work motivation is not the influence of organizational culture on human resource performance. Originality/value The originality of this research lies in forming the mediator variable that is the work motivation on the causal relationship of two variables and adding new variables of work design on the effect on the human resource performance.
Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine factors that affect knowledge management at universities in Makassar, Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach This study used explanatory research to find the causal relationship between the variables in the model. The unit of analysis was students at four universities in Makassar. The four universities were Hasanuddin University, Makassar State University, Islamic State University of Alauddin Makassar and Polytechnic of Ujung Pandang. Sample technique for this study was determined by using the proportionate stratified sampling method with a total sample of 300 students. Data were collected by using questionnaires and interviews. The analysis method used to test the model was structural equation modeling. Findings The results show that organization culture has a positive and significant influence on motivation. Organization culture also has a positive and significant influence on knowledge assets. Technology has a positive and significant influence on knowledge assets but not on motivation. Moreover, organization culture, technology and motivation do not have a positive and significant influence on knowledge management. Knowledge assets have a positive and significant influence on knowledge management. Originality/value Originality of this paper shows that built the model of organization culture and technology on motivation, knowledge asset and knowledge management to know about its effect, methods and variables that used in this study have not been discussed in previous studies with the same purpose, method and same location.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between public leadership and open government information to public service’s performance in Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach The object of the study is Jakarta Capital City Government, which is divided into five areas of administrative city and one administrative district, samples of 178 respondents are obtained. The analysis tools use the moderator regression analysis. The assumption of linearity is not met, and the alternative tools use nonparametric regression. This research uses the nonparametric moderator regression analysis: Truncated Spline. Findings The role of public leader has a significant and positive effect on public service performance, on different levels of role of public leader, moderated by the implementation of open government information. In the high level of open government information, it has a higher slope than the low level of open government information, in the range of moderate to high-level leader of public leaders. On the other hand, in the low level of open government information, it has a higher slope than the high level of open government information, in the range of moderate to high-level leader of public leaders. This shows that the higher implementation of open government information, the stronger the influence of role of public leader on public service performance. Originality/value No previous study has studied comprehensively the Moderation Effect of Open Government Information Policy in relationship between public leadership to public service performance, especially in Indonesia.
Purpose This research aims to examine the moderating effect of strategic orientation on the effect of environmental uncertainties on business performance and the moderating effect of innovations on the effect of environmental uncertainties on performance of the business in the aviation industry in Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach Research data were collected in stages by means of interviews with corporate leaders of Indonesian airlines and branch managers of several airports, as well as with the Directorate of Civil Aviation as the regulator. A pre-test and focus group discussion (FGD) were conducted to directly determine the questionnaire aspects of the research object, following which an immediate revision was made to the questionnaire. The data from the survey used in each variable were obtained from the mail questionnaire survey. The data collected using the survey are the main data used in the present study. Findings The model of environment–strategy–performance (ESP) can work well in improving performance if supported by innovations. These findings deepen the ESP paradigm in the aviation industry (Miles and Snow, 1978; Segev 1987; Covin and Slevin, 1989; Miller and Shamsie, 1996) that during conditions of high environmental uncertainties, strategic orientation, rather than a single response, will be effective if supported by innovations that provide the strategy with flexibility. The initial implications of these modeling results generate the findings that the effect of environmental uncertainties in the aviation industry (classified as strictly regulated) on performance of a company is largely determined by the direction of the strategic orientation and the innovation level. Research limitations/implications Interactions between innovations and environmental uncertainties have a significant negative effect on the achievement of business performance of the branches with a coefficient of 0.02 and a t-value of 2.00, meaning that the innovation level of a branch has an increasingly stronger influence on the business performance of the branch in the uncertain environment with limitations or underestimated by the branch manager or the innovation level of the branch is not supported with airport facilities and services, which means that the provision of airport facilities and services is inversely proportional to the needs of the airline branches. In other words, the variable “innovations” is a moderating variable for the effect of environmental uncertainties on business performance. Practical implications The results of the modeling performed in this research also show that innovations play a major role in the implementation of the ESP model (Blumentritt and Danis, 2006). The empirical phenomena and descriptive analysis results suggest that the Indonesian airlines which have been quite successful and have demonstrated an above-average performance possess higher levels of innovations. This finding corroborates that of previous studies that environmental uncertainties and direction of strategic orientation will determine the ability of a company to overcome the barriers to innovations, by maximizing innovative resources in achieving the target of innovations (Manu, 1992; O’Regan and Ghobadian, 2005; Hult et al., 2003), and more specifically, it indicates that strategic orientation that is prospective in nature leads to a high level of innovations (Salavou et al., 2004). Social implications The research findings indicate that innovations have a central role in the ESP models and are able to offer a new concept as a modification of the ESP model which in the study is called ESIP. The role of innovations in the ESIP model puts innovations as a variable moderating the effect of environmental uncertainties on performance and the effect of strategic orientation on performance. Moreover, based on the summary of the results for the analysis of the ESIP model, the following can be explained: first, environmental uncertainties have a significant and positive effect on the innovation level or the higher the level of environmental uncertainties, the more is the number of the innovations that an Indonesian airline branch creates. External environmental conditions that are likely to be complex and dynamic found in the area of operations make the branch management more able to identify barriers to innovations and manage resources to be more creative and productive for the attainment of the targets of innovations. Originality/value Innovations in business models as a new effort in improvisation specific to the business stage of the basic model (not very valuable) become more advanced business processes to produce products that are more valuable for consumers, at a more efficient cost with better profitability (Chesbrough, 2007b). So far, research on the role of innovations in response to environmental uncertainties and implementation of strategies to improve the performance of the ESP model is still done partially, so that there is no comprehensive model to describe the role of innovations in this ESP model, or let us say that a gap exists between theories and opportunities to conduct further research on the role of innovations in the ESP model.
The simulation results show that the spline estimator can be applied to the generation of data with m = 4 (cubic spline) which gives the value of R 2 of 94.63%.
