Indonesia Open University (UT: Universitas Terbuka) is a large, open university delivering distance education to students throughout Indonesia. An important aspect of its mission is to provide opportunities for Indonesian teachers to improve their education in-service. This includes two courses on classroom action research. In order to assess the effectiveness of these courses and, if necessary, improve them, a team of lecturers from UT conducted an investigation of the challenges teachers were facing in learning to conduct classroom action research through the UT modules. The team found that the modules did not adequately reflect an understanding of the actual characteristics of the teachers they were serving and were thus less effective than they might be in teaching teachers to conduct classroom action research. Changes in both the content and scheduling of the modules are recommended in order to more effectively promote classroom action research in Indonesian schools.
Facebook clearly provides a social outlet for college students, a fact backed by the large membership among this peer group. Socializing, however its unintended outcomes, is part and parcel of education of the whole person. Facebook has its place in that sense, but there seems to be a lack of any compelling reason to significantly integrate it into distance education. Students could use it as a secondary information exchange outlet in a cooperative learning mode with classmates that they have invited in their space, to complete group projects, for example. The services offered through Facebook (e.g. chatting, meeting new classmates, arranging for social/academic meetings) can well be attained using the current technologies in CMSs without the risk of security breaches and other legal matters pervasive in social networking websites. The potential use of facebook for distance learning is greatest. There was a strong feeling from distance learning students that they wanted a safe, private space to communicate. They were happy for tutors to be involved because they saw this space as having a specific course purpose. The advantage over the Virtual Learning Environment is that it seems to encourage that important social interaction as well as the course based interaction. This paper discusses distance learning education and the usage of facebook, as well as the possible implementation of facebook in distance learning education courses. The traditional way of accessing and using content from the Internet is shifting to a more collaborative environment whereby individuals, especially teenagers and young adults, are using various social networking software technologies not only to create information, but in sharing it as well. Perhaps by implementing facebook in distance education courses, it may allow instructors to get to know their students better, as well as to allow for more student-to-student interactions. This paper also discusses the usage of facebook in order to extend teacher and student collaborations in creating online learning environments.
Facebook (FB) and WhatsApp (WA) have become the communication portal for social networking, which has rapidly transformed the way people communicate and stay connected. From an educational perspective, social networking sites have received ambiguous reviews. Some studies have shown that the use of FB is becoming more widespread in language learning and it can be an effective tool. FB is not only easy to use, but it also helps encourage autonomous learning within a social environment for students and puts control for learning into the students hands. This article focuses on the social networking site, FB, and WA application within the context of UT. It attempts to shed light on an information-sharing activity conducted via online discussion using FB and WA groups and involving distance learning students. This study investigated students participation in the online discussion and their feedback on the use of FBs and WAs forums as the platform for the activity.FB and WA were adopted for supporting an online tutorial at the Open University of Indonesia with a view to heighten tutorstudent and peer-based participation, and enhance pedagogical delivery and inclusive learning in formal and informal spaces. The findings suggest FB and WA transformed pedagogy by fostering social constructivist environments for tutorstudent and peer-based co-construction of knowledge. The teachers role was transformed from an instructor to a facilitator and mentor providing guidance on demand. Student roles were also transformed from information receivers to information generators, collaborators, information organizer/seekers/givers, critical thinkers and group leaders. However, the challenges of using Facebook and WhatsApp included tutor resentment of the merging of academic and family life occasioned by WhatsApp consultations after hours.
Tutors' and students' intentions to use emerging technologies (ETs) in e-learning systems in higher education institutions are a central concern of researchers, academicians, and practitioners. However, tutors' and students' intentions to use ETs in e-learning systems in distance learning are relatively low. The goal of the study, developed in Universitas Terbuka, was to investigate the factors that may affect tutors' and students' intentions to use ETs in online tutorials. A Web-based survey was designed to empirically assess the effect of the aforementioned constructs on tutors' and students' intentions to use ETs in online tutorials. The statistical analysis results showed that the theoretical model was able to predict instructors' and students' intention to use ETs in online tutorials. However, not all three independent variables showed significant relationships with the dependent variable. Results of MLR analysis was consistent on technology competencies (TC) as having the greatest weight on predicting instructors' and students' intentions to use ETs.

Technology business competition leads to the order of social life to solve challenges through a combination of innovations from various elements found in the industrial revolution 4.0 towards Society 5.0. One form of Intellectual Property Rights is Copyright, which has the widest scope of protected objects since it includes science, art, literature, and computer programs where artificial intelligence will transform millions of data collected via the internet into increasingly complex wisdom to consider a technology that can bring benefits but is also a "threat and challenge" towards the gate of Society 5.0. This research aims to determine the protection of copyright law towards the gate of society 5.0. The research method used is normative juridical. Literary law research is legal research conducted by examining library materials or secondary data based on the principles, theories, doctrines, prevailing laws, and regulations. The study results found that the Copyright Law has not accommodated Society 5.0, especially economic rights for its creators. Article 6 is only to protect moral rights through Copyright management information and electronic information on Copyright. There is a need for the state's role, which functions as a regulator, provider, and counterweight, to adjust the rules to follow technological developments towards the gate of society 5.0, which does not mean changing all current legal products but is adaptive to existing legal instruments as legal protection measures to face a new chapter of intellectual property rights.
The implementation of credit transfer at Universitas Terbuka refers to the Rector's Regulation Number 119, 2018. This credit transfer could only be carried out once when students registered themselves at very first time. Recognition of credit transfer is accepted whn accomplishment of courses have been obtained from their previous universities. Through the provision of credit transfer recognition services, students are expected to be able to finish their study faster. Students can apply for credit transfer through the Faculty which would then be proceed by Study Program. Students are required to collect documents such as diplomas, transcripts, descriptions of courses at their previous university, and the submissions for courses intended to be transferred for credit. The documents which are in form of print out would later be processed in their respective Study Programs. During the process, the Study Program compiled the documents manually by recording and determining the courses approved for credit transfer. However, the study Program hasn’t used a special application. Due to this limitation, several problems occurred in the process, such as the absence of filing the credit transfer application documents, the ineffectiveness of storing the credit transfer master block in the Study Program, and the large number of credit transfer applications. These problems often result in delays in the credit transfer process, thus disrupting academic services for students. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a credit transfer application that can assist in the implementation of credit transfer in the Faculty of Science and Technology. The methodology used to develop this credit transfer application is the waterfall model. For design modeling using UML (Unified Modeling Language), while software testing uses Black Box Testing and usability and acceptance tests applied the PSSUQ (Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire) method. From the results of the tests, it showed that Black Box Testing got test results of 100%, while the usability and acceptance tests using the PSSUQ method got 68% of respondents. The conclusion of this study showed that the application is ready to use and the users Agree/Good/Like on the development of a web-based credit transfer application at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universitas Terbuka (case study of Information Systems Study Program). Kata kunci: Credit transfer, Web, Waterfall, , Black Box Testing, PSSUQ.
