SUCCESSFUL EXPERIENCES OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN THE YOUNG HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN TLAXCALA, MEXICO ABSTRACTThree successful experiences of Environmental Education (EE), which have been applied and evaluated in the last four years at the high school level (Centro de Bachillerato Tecnológico Industrial y de Servicios 212 de Tetla de la Solidaridad , Tlaxcala), through the Ecology course that is given in the fourth semester to the students of the different specialties are presented in this work, with the purpose of promoting environmental awareness for the care and conservation of their schoolcommunity environment. The investigation develops in the frame of qualitative methodology using direct observation, tasks, logs and a questionnaire that was applied in average to 120 students per year. As result of each experience, there are students capable of establishing viable, playful and creative actions and activities to mitigate the environmental deterioration of their school-community. Likewise, they are competent to obtain information of direct and indirect form, to design programs and ecological projects, to extend their skills, attitudes, comptetences and commitments in order to solve and to mitigate problems of their environment.
An acute presentation of an optic disc hemorrhage can indicate true optic nerve head damage or can be a result of tractional forces on the vitreopapillary interface. An isolated optic disc hemorrhage secondary to vitreopapillary traction (VPT) can mimic the clinical presentation of a glaucomatous process or that of an underlying ocular or systemic condition. This article highlights the use of spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) 5 line raster (5LR) in differentiating true optic disc hemorrhages from those as a result of tractional forces. Two examples are given of patients presenting to our clinic with unilateral optic disc hemorrhages and various underlying disease processes as risk factors. With the use of SD-OCT 5LR imaging, VPT was implicated as the cause of the disc hemorrhages in both patients. Although this imaging tool alone is not enough to rule out a disease process such as glaucoma or prevent the need for additional diagnostic testing, SD-OCT 5LR is a noninvasive and valuable clinical tool in distinguishing VPT from other etiologies of an optic nerve hemorrhage.
AbstractGlobal warming (GW) is one of the biggest environmental problems with negative impacts on natural and artificial ecosystems. The objective of this research was to describe the knowledge and perception of the high school students on the GW, in order that such researches might be guidelines for authorities and teachers for establishing strategies and changes in educational programs on different training programs. The research is conducted within the framework of qualitative methodology, using the descriptive method. A total of 85 questionnaires were applied with open and closed questions in three groups of fourth semester who had taken the subject of Ecology in 2014 at the Center for Industrial Technological Baccalaureate and Services (CBTis 212) of Tetla of Solidaridad, Tlaxcala. We found that the students have knowledge on the subject, but there is also awareness that this not enough, this is because the staff is not well trained and prepared to teach in depth regarding this topic. We conclude that when the students perceive an unpleasant environment, this might influence for them to become sensitized and conscientious to care and take action to mitigate the environmental degradation. Keywords: environmental consequences, high school education, natural disasters.1278 Rev.
