The paper underscores the infrastructural facility and the student's academic performance in Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. Thirty questionnaires were administered through a systematic sampling technique in each of the six faculties making a total of 180 questionnaires. The paper has found out a positive relationship between the student's academic performance, power supply and health facilities. However, the internet facilities and transportation facilities were not adequate, whereas water supply was adequate. A test of the impact of infrastructural facility on the student's academic performance, using a Chi Square statistical technique revealed a significant value of 177.1 at 0.05 % level. The paper recommends that the existing facilities should be upgraded and significantly improved by the government; urgent attention should be given to the development of the internet facilities and transportation sector of the University. Also, private partnership should be encouraged in the infrastructural development of the University. Subject and purpose of work: Investment in infrastructural facilities has the capacity to create an enabling environment to stimulate business and industrial activities. Nevertheless, there are a few studies on the impact of infrastructural facilities on industrial development in developing countries. The main aim of this study is to investigate the impact of infrastructural facilities on industrial development in Lagos State, Nigeria. Materials and methods: One hundred and three questionnaires were administered to the selected companies through the use of multi-stage sampling techniques across the industrial zones. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics while ANOVA, Stepwise Regression, and correlation were used to investigate the research hypothesis. Results: The research shows that the impact of infrastructure on research and development is poor, while the infrastructural impact on the ease of production is averagely significant. Using Stepwise regression, the study revealed that ease of production (89.7%), productivity (1.1%), and industrial expansion (1.5%) were the major areas of industrial development that were positively impacted while research and development and workers’ morale were not positively impacted. The result of Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient shows that a relationship exists between infrastructural facilities and industrial development of the Lagos region (r= 0.880; p-value=0.000) at 0.05 level of significance. Conclusions: The study concluded that adequacy of infrastructural facilities positively enhances and boosts the industrial potential of the study area.
The influx of people to the urban area to enhance positive survival and self-fulfillment, have definite consequences at the places of destination. The paper posits that urbanisation and unemployment could be understood from the perspectives of its consequences in Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. This study adopts both primary and secondary sources of data. The first stage in the collection of primary data involves the reconnaissance survey of the study area. Fifteen questionnaires were randomly administered in each of the identified fifteen quarters, making a total of 225 questionnaires; but on the whole 217 questionnaires were retrieved for the analysis. The paper reveals that urbanisation is high, while the major causes of unemployment are urbanisation, other indices of urbanisation includes; infrastructural facilities, trade and commerce, political reasons as well as the high birth rate. The study also reveals causes of unemployment such as socio-cultural factors, low technology, weather conditions as well as government policies The research has found out that the effect of urbanisation on employment accessibility, infrastructural facilities as well as on housing is negative, while the effect of urbanisation on crime rate is high. The paper also reveals that urbanisation and unemployment phenomena have impacted negatively on the standard of living, while government efforts in curbing high urbanisation as well as alleviating unemployment problems are inadequate. The paper, however, recommended that government
This study focuses on the youth and the parent fighting future unemployment through present combination of apprenticeship with studentship. A phenomenon of which little is known, conducted in 4 selected secondary schools in Ondo state, Nigeria. Data through a multistage sampling technique, from 160 students’ terminal mean scores of third and first terminal results of 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 sessions respectively, were analyzed. Results showed that consideration of the possibility of future unemployment has significant relationship with students’ combination of apprenticeship with academics [r (158) = 0.211, p < .05] among others. Although parents seek to play safe regarding future employment opportunity for their children, differences in mean scores in academic performance indicate that those who did not combine studentship with apprenticeship (M=515.75; SD=171.58) outperformed those who did (M=513.52; SD=146.24). Similarly, combined activities have a direct relationship with stress capable of affecting physical and mental life of students thus casting doubt on the future safety net of the decision.
