Von Prof. Ad. Czerny in Berlin. M. H.! Auf dem Gebiete der Ernährungslehre hat sich in den letzten Jahren die Aufmerksamkeit der Forscher auf ein neues Arbeitsgebiet konzentriert. Viele Beobachtungen an Meñschen und Tieren zwangen dazu, die Lehre von der zweckmäßigen Zusammensetzung der Nahrung einer Revision zu unterziehen. Die alte Schule beschränkte sich darauf, fünf Substanzen, und zwar Eiweiß, Kohlehydrate, Fett, Salze und Wasser, als unentbehrliche Bestandteile der Nahrung zu betrachten. Auch in der Kinderheilkunde bemühte man sich, einerseits die notwendige Menge jedes dieser einzelnen Be-b
Die geistige TJeberbürdung der Kinder wird zurzeit als Ursache später sich äußernder Neuropathien sehr gefürchtet. Sie wird fast allgemein nur auf jede Art von Schulunterricht bezogen. Man scheut sich deshalb, die Kinder in den ersten Lebensjahren Lieder oder Gedichte lernen zu lassen. Sodann wird versucht den Beginn des Schulunterrichtes nicht in das sechste, sondern in ein späteres Lebensjahr zu verlegen. Vielen erscheint die Zahl der Schulstunden zu groll; man sucht nach Ausflüchten, um die Befreiung der Kinder von eIner Anzahl Schulstunden zu erlangen. Schließlich werden noch die Ferien für ungenügend lang gehalten und oft ohne triftigen Grund Verlängerungen derselben durchgesetzt. Es scheint geradezu modern zu sein, den Schulunterricht nur als eine Schaßigung der Kinder aufzufassen. Jeder, der sieh in diesem Sinne äußert, ist des Beifalls der Menge sicher. Wenn Ellen Key') vom Seelenmorde in den Schulen spricht, findet sie überall eine Zahl Anhänger, welche rasch bereit sind, einzelne, scheinbar dafür sprechende Erfahrungen anzuführen.
