En 2017 y 2018 se aplicó un recubrimiento comestible a base de pectina de tejocote (Crataegus mexicana D.C.) adicionado con aceite de Vitis y extractos vegetales de Cissus o Vitis en frutos de tihuxicote (Ximenia americana L.) como proceso de mejora en la vida poscosecha. La fruta con o sin recubrimiento se almacenó por 6 días a 5 °C y posteriormente se expuso a 25 °C o solamente a 25 °C. En ambos años, al exponerse solamente a 25 ºC, los frutos recubiertos ya sea con Vitis o Cissus, tuvieron 3 días más de vida útil en comparación a frutos sin recubrir. Mientras que en el almacenamiento a 5 °C más exposición a 25 °C, en 2017 se aumentó 3 días la vida de exposición con los recubrimientos comestibles, pero en 2018 no hubo efecto de los mismos. Los recubrimientos disminuyeron la tasa de pérdida de firmeza de pulpa y cáscara. El mayor contenido de sólidos solubles totales se presentó en el almacenamiento a 25 °C, sin recubrir, en el año 2017.
