Ninety constituents (98%) of the essential oil of the leaves and¯owers of Achillea eriophora DC. (Compositae) were identi®ed. The main constituents are 1,8-cineole (34%) and the pinenes (13%). The oil contains only 7% of sesquiterpenes, mainly caryophyllene derivatives. Three new farnesol derivatives were isolated as trace constituents.

Water-distilled essential oil from the leaves of Thecocarpus meifolious Boiss. which is endemic to Iran, collected from the province of Chaharmahal-Bakhtiyari, west of Iran, was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The leaf oil of T. meifolious investigated to analyze their antimicrobial activity, antioxidant and total phenolic content. Antioxidative properties of this oil was determined by 3 methods i.e., by ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), radical-scavenging capacity of the oil or bleaching of 2,20-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and β-carotene-linoleic acid assay. Spathulenol (20.51 %), camphor (10.20 %) and caryophyllene oxide (10.35 %) were the major components in this oil. This oil indicated significant activity Candida albicans and moderate inhibitory activity against the gram-negative bacteria. The results suggest application of T. meifolious oil as a natural antioxidant agent.

Eine alkalische Deuterierung von 3 scheitert aber daran, dal3 schon mit mildem Alkali in der Kalte eine intramolekulare Aldolkondensation der beiden cis-standigen Acetylgruppen eintritt 2, b). Zur Unterscheidung der beiden Acetylgruppen von 3 ist aber eine Deuterierung gar nicht notwendig. Plants play an important role in cancer prevention and treatment. Satureja khuzistanica, an endemic plant to Iranian flora is widely distributed in the southern and western parts of Iran. It is famous for its medical uses as analgesic and antiseptic in folk medicine. It has been showed that Satureja khuzistanica possess inhibitory effects on the proliferation and reproduction of certain tumorigenic microorganisms and viruses, such as Heliobacter pylori. Transcriptional regulation of some oncogene and carcinogenesis-related gene expression and interaction with both DNA and RNA are also well documented. Besides, Satureja khuzistanica is a spectrum enzyme inhibitor. More importantly, the suppression of tumor growth and metastasis, the beneficial application in combined medication, and the improvement of multidrug resistance both in vivo and in vitro clearly show its potential as an alternative medicine for tumor chemotherapy.
