Durante o domínio muçulmano na Península Ibérica, no Al-Andalus e Gharb Al- Andalus, que teve lugar entre 711 e 1492, a língua árabe foi um relevante veículo de cultura e de ciência nessa região,vtendo deixado um legado linguístico notável nas línguas ibéricas (1). O presente artigo propõe-se descrever e analisar alguns aspetos importantes da influência árabe na língua portuguesa. O estudo realizou-se partindo da seleção de um corpus composto por vinte arabismos pertencente a vários campos linguísticos. Concluiu-se que a influência da língua árabe no português está associada, sobretudo, à conservação dos artigos lunar (ex. alface, alfazema, almoxa-rife) e solar (2) (ex. adufe, açude, açúcar) que se aglutinam aos substantivos, atuando como prefixos. Através destes e doutros exemplos, verificou-se que os aprendentes de português (cuja língua materna é o árabe) acabam, na realidade, por empregar uma forma híbrida, usando dois artigos definidos – o do português [o/a(s)] e o do árabe [al] ou [a]. Poder-se-á, assim, dizer que o uso duplicado do artigo constitui o traço mais marcante dos arabismos que afetam o português. Ao nível cultural, o trabalho apresenta e explica alguns exemplos de difusão cultural árabe-muçulmana na Península Ibérica em que os arabismos testemunham, verdadeiramente, essa aculturação que se manifesta amplamente na agricultura, nas artes e ciências, na arquitetura, entre muitos outros domínios. 1 - Neste artigo, as línguas ibéricas remetem neste artigo para o castelhano e para o português. 2 - A origem desta designação tem a ver com o facto de “o sol”, em árabe, alshams /  , ser pronunciado asshams, assimilando o l / ل; enquanto “a lua”, escreve-se e pronuncia-se alqamar /  . Por esta razão, “o sol” e “a lua” foram tomadas em árabe como referências pelos linguistas para distinguir dois tipos fonéticos de artigo definido. Como consequência desta distinção, na língua árabe encontramos, também, consoantes solares e lunares.

Admite, portanto, a possibilidade de transferência de conhecimentos da L1, mas também da L2, na apropriação de uma L3. A ativação e/ou bloqueio do conhecimento linguístico anterior (L1 e L2) na apropriação de uma L3 depende da conjugação de vários fatores, tais como as tipologias das línguas em questão e a proximidade interlinguística, a profi ciência do falante, o efeito psicolinguístico da L2, a exposição à L2 e o uso frequente da mesma no contexto social e, porventura, ainda outros fatores que devem ser identifi cados e estudados.Partindo deste pressuposto, acreditando que o processo de apropriação de uma L3/Ln é diferente do que uma L2, este artigo procura explicar de que modo é que os conhecimentos dos fatores condicionantes da apropriação de uma L3/Ln podem ser potenciados e aplicados pelos professores/investigadores -nomeadamente nos instrumentos de recolha de dados, em particular no questionário -a fi m de caracterizar o perfi l dos aprendentes plurilingues.Este tipo de abordagem refl exiva, teoricamente sustentável, parece extremamente positivo, tanto para a investigação como para o ensino.
