Problemstellung Gegeben sei eine Losung yo der gewohnlichen Schrodingergleichung fur ein stationares Einkorperproblem, das durch eine potentielle Energie V und (im Falle des kontinuierlichen Spektrums) etwaige Grenzbedingungen im Unendlichen festgelegt ist. (Vom Hinzutreten eines Vektorpotentials sehen wir ab.) Wir fragen nach der Losung y der Diracgleichung bei gleichem V und gleichen ev.Grenzbedingungen. Da die eigentliche Diracgleichung von erster Ordnung und anderer Bauart ist als die Schrodingergleichung, so werden wir mit der ,,iterierten" Diracgleichung operieren, d. h. derjenigen Gleichung zweiter Ordnung, die man erhalt, wenn man die von D i r a c vorgenommene Aufspaltung der relativistischen Schrodingergleichung wieder ruckgangig macht, wobei dann die bekannten Spinglieder auftreten. Sie lautet bei einem stationaren Problem der Energie E: R CDie vier GroBen yl, y2, y3, y4 sind hyperkomplexe Einheiten, die wir den vier Koordinaten xl, x2, x3, x4 = i c t in symmetrischer Weise zuordnen. y bedeutet dementsprechend einen dreidimensionnlen Raumvektor. Wir sehen davon ab, die y speziell durch vierreihige Matrizen darzustellen ' ). Zum anderen wotlen ~4r die Frage 4es Beitrages der 0berfl~chenwellen zur elektrisehen Leitf~higkei~ klaren. Die ersten Teile unserer Arbeit wer4en sich 4abei nut im eingesehlagenen Weg, nieht abet wesentlich im Inhalt, yon 4er Rijanowschen Arbeit unterscheiden. Uber unsere Ergebnisse wurde bereits kurz beriehtet4).In der Metalltheorie wird im allgemeinen der unendiich ausgedetmte Kristall betrachtet.Die Eigenfunktionen der Elektronen im Kristall ergeben sich als LSsungen 4er SchrSdinger-Gleiehung mit einem periodischen Potential.Als Randbedingung verlangt man Periodizit~t 4er Eigenfunktionen im ,,Grun4gebiet", einem Raumstiick, d~s eine sehr grol~e Anzahl von Elementarzellen umfal~t. L~l~t man das Grundgebie~ ins Unendiiche waehsen, so. koTnmt die Bedingung 4er Periodizit~t in Fortfall un4 bleibt nur die Forderung der Endlichkeit 4er Eigenfunktion im ganzen unendliehen Raum iibrig.
