The ligand 5-isopropylidene-l-methyl-2,4-dithiobiuret hydrochloride (HIMDTB.HCI) has been prepared by reacting 1 -methyl-2,4-dithiobiuret with ethyl chloroformate in the presence of acetone. New transition metal complexes of the type Ni(IMDTB)2, CO(IMDTB)~.~H~O, [Cu(HIMDTB)C1]2 and M(HUIDTB)S04 = Zn(1I) and Cd(n)] have been synthesized and characterized. Molar conductance values revealed that the bivalent metal ions are non-ionic in Dh4F. The electronic spectra, FT-IR spectra and magnetic moments of the complexes are suggestive of a square-planar geometry for Ni(II), octahedral geometry for Co(II), pseudotetrahedral stereochemistry for Cum) and charge transfer for Zn(II) and Cd(II). The complexes have been characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic methods. They have been preliminarily examined for antibacterial and antfingal activities against selected microbial strains and are found to be selective growth inhibitors of Stuphylwwcus aureus and Escherichia coli in particular.935
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
