Abstract:is article conducts an empirical assessment of research styles in the social sciences in Argentina, based on the most cited publications of Conicet researchers in the fields of political science and sociology. A statistical analysis of 760 published articles tests hypotheses on the link between doctoral training, research style and the researchers' scientific methodologies. We contribute to existing debates on hegemonic research styles in the global south, and show significant prevalence of qualitative methodology as well as a distinct quantitative bias in comparative studies and among US trained scholars. Further, we present novel findings describing the link between methodological choices and intersubjective recognition.
