COVID-19 Caused by the novel corona virus (SARS-CoV-2), which has already pushed the entire global community to change their priorities towards finding a suitable anti-viral medicine and a vaccine. While most of the countries have started to prescribe vaccines, which show varied levels of efficacy, finding an effective anti-viral medicine against the virus is still in the early stages despite full-fledged research activities at global level. Many countries particularly those having a rich traditional health science background like India and China started to recommend medicines belonging to local health traditions. The public utilization of those medicines also yielded good results in terms of prevention of the viral infection, reducing the severity of disease or/and reducing the number of days required to recover from the disease as perceived and reported by the patients and doctors. In Tamil Nadu, there are more than 80 million populations. Siddha medicine is the most widely used system of traditional medicine. ‘Suram’ is the Tamil word equivalent to the term ‘fever’. Kabasuram (Also known as Aiya suram) is one among the 64 types of fevers mentioned in Siddha symptoms of which are identical to those of COVID-19. “Notchi kudineer”– a Siddha herbal formulation is being used since many centuries for fever and respiratory disorders with remarkable success. This review article attempts to explore the pharmacological evidence in support of the therapeutic usage of “Notchi kudineer” hence justifying its usage in respiratory related illnesses having fever as a main symptom like the current pandemic of COVID-19.
An old Indian traditional medical practice called Siddha developed in South India. The Lord typically serves as the source of the system. It is believed that Goddess Parvathi, represented by Lord Shiva, received the Siddha system's knowledge from the Almighty, who then passed it on to Nandikeswara. Nandikeswara was appointed to set up for the framework to be spread in the midst of humankind thus, he obediently granted the information to Sage Agastya. Agastya gave all of the relevant information to his various disciples, who helped spread the system around the world. Diet and lifestyle play a significant role in both health and disease treatment, according to the Siddha medicine system. Pathiyam and Apathiyam refer to this Siddha medicine concept, which is essentially a rule-based system with a list of "dos and don'ts.” The aim of this review article is to explore the scientific literary evidence for the therapeutic usage of Panchadeepakini chooranam for (Silethuma Noi/Kaba Noi) as mentioned in Citta Vaittiya Tirattu and to assign effort to entity the pharmacological activity for the curative nature of the drug. Most of the raw drugs used for the preparation of Panchadeepakini chooranam have bronchodilatory activity, anti-tussive activity, anti-allergic activity, immunomodulatory activity, anti-histamine activity hence justifying its usage in respiratory illness.
The word "Siddha" comes from the root word "Citti," which denotes accomplishment, attainment of perfection, and eternal bliss. A scientific and comprehensive approach is used by the Siddha system of medicine, a traditional medical system, to provide preventive, promotional, curative, rejuvenating, and rehabilitative healthcare. At least three loose, liquid, or watery bowel motions per day-also spelt diarrhea- is the definition of diarrhoea. It frequently lasts a few days and can lead to dehydration from fluid loss. The aim of this review article is to explore the scientific literary evidence for the therapeutic usage of Kariveppilai vadagam for Kazhichal/Diarrhoea as mentioned in Citta Vaittiya Tirattu and to concentrate on the Pharmacological activity for the drug's therapeutic properties. The majority of the raw ingredients used to make Kariveppilai vadagam contain anti-diarrheal activity, which supports its use in diarrhoea.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
