A novel synthesized version of the wellknown rectangular dielectric image guide is presented in this work for low-cost millimetre-wave applications. Lower effective permittivity regions surrounding a guiding channel were artificially created by using a laser to cut a triangular hole lattice in low-loss high permittivity substrates. Simulation and measurement results for straight sections of such a substrate integrated image guide (SIIG) in TMM substrate and high resistivity silicon are presented. Specific properties of the structure with respect to electromagnetic band gaps (EBG), radiation and leakage, design flexibility, fabrication, and integration in the context of substrate integrated circuits (SIC) are discussed for the first time.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
