Time-frequency distributions (TFD) describe a signal in terms of its joint time and frequency content. In this paper, the TFD analysis of the electromagnetic scattering from a circular waveguide cavity is investigated. Two hefrequency representations, the Wigner distribution and the running-window Fourier transform, are applied to the frequency-domain scattering data and the results are compared. For the cavity, propagating modes and cutoff frequencies can be determined from the TFD, whereas neither time nor frequency representations will directly provide such information.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
