З метою дослідження змін структури та ангіоархітектоніки кори мозочка щура, обумовлених довготривалим введенням опіоїду, зокрема налбуфіну, проведено дослідження на 26 статевозрілих білих щурах-самцях, віком 3,0-4,5 місяців і масою тіла 180-220 г. Матеріали дослідження представлені препаратами мозочка щурів з ін'єцированим судинним руслом, гістологічними препаратами та ультраструктурними зрізами мозочка. Результати дослідження свідчать про глибокі деструктивні зміни клітин кори мозочка і ланок гемомікроциркуляторного русла. Виразно виступає зв'язок між глибиною структурних перетворень кори мозочка і морфометричними показниками ланок гемомікроциркуляторного русла за 6-тижневого впливу опіоїду. Гемомікроциркуляторне русло кори мозочка після довготривалого введення налбуфіну знаходиться на стадії декомпенсації, коли капілярний компонент зруйнований, артеріоли різко покручені, деформовані, просвіт їх нерівномірний, венули розширені і деформовані.
On October 14, 2022, the 6ᵗʰ International Symposium “SMART LION” (Science Medicine Arts Research Translational Lviv International Opportunity Network) was held in Lviv with the support from Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, the Medical Commission of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, Lviv City Council and Lviv Conference Bureau. It was no coincidence that the time of the conference coincided with the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, which include military medical professionals and scientists who equip them with knowledge and skills enabling them to save lives on the battlefield. The purpose of the symposium was to analyze the new experience of medical professionals and volunteers of Ukraine and its allies, which they acquired during russia's war against Ukraine, develop new methods in medical education, and establish close cooperation between military medical professionals, volunteers, and scientists. The scientific event was held online via ZOOM. It was also streamed on the Facebook page of the journal “Proceedings of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. Medical Sciences”. The event featured more than 20 speeches by international and domestic scientists and highly qualified specialists. Subsequently, they will serve as a scientific and practical foundation for the development of both military and general medicine. Discussions during the conference clearly showed the need for systemic changes in medical education, supplementing educational programs taking into account the vast experience of military medical professionals, and improving teaching methods. At the end of the symposium, organizers expressed confidence that most of the deliverables and ideas highlighted during the conference will be successfully implemented. We sincerely thank all defenders and allies of Ukraine, volunteers and medical professionals who save people's lives, sometimes pulling them out of the death grip. With hope for and belief in a bright future, with faith in an upcoming victory and plans to meet again live in Lviv at SMART LION 2023.
For the fifth year in a row, the international symposium SMART LION (Science Medicine Arts Research Translational Lviv International Opportunity Network) is taking place in Lviv, which has become a good tradition in scientific and practical communication. This year, the symposium is focused on the “Medical Imagining and Global Health”. The scientific event was held in Lviv on October 7–9, 2021. The format was mixed. The event was held with the support of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, Medical Commission of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, Lviv City Council and Lviv Convention Bureau. The symposium was focused on providing a unique opportunity for young and experienced scientists and doctors working on the development of innovative technologies in medicine, to further cooperate in the field of science and integrate their knowledge and achievements into world science. The interesting and eventful agenda included over 20 lectures and poster presentations delivered by national and foreign lecturers, as well as a master class on “How to use the online Open Journal System to publish scientific articles in medical journals”. To focus the attention of young scientists, students and interns on topical issues of medicine, well-known scientists from different countries of Europe and America are annually invited to attend the symposium as speakers. During the two days of the conference, Ukrainian and foreign leading experts in the field of medicine – Leo Wolansky (USA), Sandor Szabo (USA), Vassyl Lonchyna (USA), Klaus Holzmann (Austria), Siegfried Knasmüller (Austria), Armen Gasparyan (Great Britain), Ivan Wolansky (USA), Yuriy Ivaniv (Ukraine), Nelya Oryshchyn (Ukraine), Andriy Netliukh (Ukraine), Yuriy Mylyan (Ukraine), Oksana Zayachkivska (Ukraine), Roman Plyatsko (Ukraine), Khrystyna Lishchuk-Yakymovych (Ukraine), Olena Zimba (Ukraine) – shared their experience and the latest achievements in the field of medicine. After a two-year break due to a COVID-19 pandemic, joint live discussions between young scientists – students, interns, post-graduate students – with leading scientists during poster presentations and panel discussions held at the symposium helped them rethink the need for systemic changes in medical education and the implementation of modern diagnostic methods utilizing real-time visualization with elements of artificial intelligence into curriculums. In conclusion, Oksana Zayachkivska (Professor, Chair of the Department of Normal Physiology, Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University; Editor-in-Chief of the “Proceeding of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. Medical Sciences”) and Vassyl Lonchyna (Professor, University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Ukrainian Catholic University) summed up the symposium and expressed hope to meet again at SMART LION 2022.
Metabolic physiology plays a key role in maintaining our health and resilience. Metabolic disorders can lead to serious illnesses, including obesity. The pathogenesis of the new long COVID syndrome in individuals with long-term recovery after SARS-Co-2 infection is still incomplete. Thus there is growing attention in the study of adipose tissue activities, especially brown adipose tissue (BAT) and associated resilience which plays a crucial role in different types of obesity as potential targets for pharmacologic and nutritional interventions in the context of obesity and long COVID. The number of studies examining mechanisms underlying BAT has grown rapidly in the last 10 years despite of role of BAT in individuals with COVID-19 and long COVID is modest. Therefore, this review aims to sum up data examining BAT activities, its resilience in health, obesity, and the possible link to long COVID. The search was conducted on studies published in English mostly between 2004 and 2022 in adult humans and animal models. Database searches were conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar for key terms including adipose tissue, BAT, adipokinins, obesity, VPF/VEGF, and pathogenesis. From the initial search through the database were identified relevant articles that met inclusion and exclusion criteria and our data regarding adipose tissues were presented in this review. It will discuss adiposity tissue activities. Current literature suggests that there are BAT integral effects to whitening and browning fat phenomenons which reflect the homeostatic metabolic adaptive ability for environmental demand or survival/adaptive mechanisms. We also review neural and vascular impacts in BAT that play a role in resilience and obesity. Finally, we discuss the role of BAT in the context of long COVID in basic research and clinical research.
