The crystal structure, infrared spectrum and thermal stability of 3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-2-propenoic acid sodium salt have been studied. The compound of general formula {[Na 2 L 2 Á 3H 2 O] Á H 2 O} n is a two-dimensional polymer, in which Na ions are bridged by one or two water molecules and additionally coordinated to oxygen atoms of carboxylate, hydroxy and methoxy groups. The structure is stabilized by a hydrogen bond network. The compound dehydrates at 75 C and then decomposes at 150 C. The IR spectra of the salt and free acid are discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
