Three cases of so-called trichoblastic infundibular cyst are reported. The lesions showed a configuration similar to infundibular cysts, including basophilic orthokeratotic corneocytes arranged in basket-weave pattern and intermingled with eosinophilic sebum. The cyst wall was mainly composed of stratified squamous epithelium showing infundibular keratinization throughout a granular layer. However, in some areas, epithelial cords, buds and reticulated proliferations of follicular germinative cells surrounded by a densely cellular stroma emanated radially from the cyst wall. In one case, in addition to the presence of follicular germinative cells, there were also aggregations of matrical cells with evidences of inner sheath and matrical differentiation. In our opinion, these findings support a neoplastic rather than a cystic nature for this lesion. We discuss the histopathologic differential diagnosis with other follicular cystic lesions showing similar keratinization.
A frictionless environment simulation platform, utilized for accomplishing three-axis attitude control tests in small satellites, is introduced. It is employed to develop, improve, and carry out objective tests of sensors, actuators, and algorithms in the experimental framework. Different sensors (i.e. sun, earth, magnetometer, and an inertial measurement unit) are utilized to assess three-axis deviations. A set of three inertial wheels is used as primary actuators for attitude control, together with three mutually perpendicular magnetic coils intended for desaturation purposes, and as a backup control system. Accurate balancing, through the platform’s center of mass relocation into the geometrical center of the spherical air-bearing, significatively reduces gravitational torques, generating a virtually torque-free environment. A very practical balancing procedure was developed for equilibrating the table in the local horizontal plane, with a reduced final residual torque. A wireless monitoring system was developed for on-line and post-processing analysis; attitude data are displayed and stored, allowing properly evaluate the sensors, actuators, and algorithms. A specifically designed onboard computer and a set of microcontrollers are used to carry out attitude determination and control tasks in a distributed control scheme. The main components and subsystems of the simulation platform are described in detail.
A 2-year-old boy had hundreds of discrete, small, flat yellow to brown colored papules distributed over the face, neck, and trunk. Biopsy revealed a well-demarcated infiltrate within the papillary dermis composed of histiocytes and some Touton giant cells and eosinophils. The cells were negative for protein S-100 and CD1a but positive for CD68 staining. No systemic lesions of juvenile xanthogranuloma were identified. Lichenoid juvenile xanthogranuloma is a very infrequent variant of juvenile xanthogranuloma.
En este trabajo se utilizó la riqueza de especies y el endemismo de las especies de cactáceas argentinas para seleccionar las provincias con la mayor prioridad para la conservación de esta familia de plantas en el país. Además, se evaluó el papel de la diversidad de cactáceas como sustitutos de la diversidad de plantas dicotiledóneas de Argentina. La riqueza de especies (número de especies) y el endemismo (número de especies endémicas) fueron determinadas para cada una de las 24 provincias de Argentina. Un total de 15 provincias fueron seleccionadas como prioritarias con base en todas las especies de cactáceas y 14 con base en las especies endémicas. La provincia de Salta presenta la mayor riqueza de especies y endemismo. Las especies endémicas son un buen sustituto de la diversidad de cactáceas. De igual manera, las cactáceas son un buen sustituto de la diversidad de las plantas dicotiledóneas.
Aim of study: The purpose of this study is to estimate the economic value of the recreational use of a protected natural area. The importance of the study lies in the justification of these valuations due to the use that society perceives from the environmental benefits of these areas as well as to the valuable information for management for public administrators with the aim of checking the budget that they manage.Area of study: Calares del Mundo and Sima Natural Park (Albacete, Castilla-La Mancha).Material and methods: With the purpose of determining consumer surplus, 410 surveys were made in August, 2009 and the individual travel cost method was used.Main results: The value the visitor conceded for the recreational use of the park was 12.58 € and the annual consumer surplus value added for recreational use reached almost 3.5 million euros.Research highlights: This research emphasizes that the results are along the same lines as those from similar studies carried out in natural areas of Spain as well as in natural areas of other countries.Key words: natural areas; travel cost method; consumer surplus; Castilla-La Mancha.
