The satA gene encoding streptogramin A resistance was detected in virginiamycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium isolates from pigs and broilers. The satA gene was present in 22 of 89 (25%) virginiamycin-resistant E. faecium isolates. It was shown that the satA gene and other gene(s) encoding streptogramin resistance could be transferred between isogenic E. faecium strains at frequencies ranging from 2.3U10 3R to 2.2U10 3Q transconjugants per donor. z
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
