Spectral and polarization characteristics of laser diodes is of great importance for the light emission control at various applications. Results of a comprehensive study of the output performance characteristics of quantum-well heterostructure lasers are presented. Attention is given to asymmetric multiple-quantum-well heterolasers which are possessed of unique functional properties, such as wide-band tuning the emission spectra, multi-wavelength lasing, and insensitivity to light polarization. Optical models of the active medium, which allow simulating different practical situations with respect to the tuned lasing wavelength, are described. Effects of the radiation polarization state on the performance of the heterolasers are examined and selection parameters of the laser cavities are determined.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
