Área temática: EpidemiologiaINTRODUÇÃO: A COVID-19 é uma doença viral que teve origem em Wuhan na China, em dezembro de 2019, já no Brasil, o primeiro caso foi confirmado em fevereiro de 2020. Os principais sintomas identificados foram febre, tosse improdutiva, dificuldade respiratória, dor e fraqueza. As complicações da doença, o maior risco de hospitalização e óbito são mais comuns em idosos e pessoas que possuem outras patologias associadas como diabetes mellitus e hipertensão arterial. OBJETIVO: Caracterizar a prevalência dos óbitos por COVID-19 em idosos hipertensos e diabéticos acima de 80 anos hospitalizados em um município sulmatogrossense. METODOLOGIA: Estudo descritivo, transversal, de natureza quantitativa e baseado em dados secundários de casos notificados e óbitos por COVID-19 entre junho de 2020 e junho de 2022 em uma Unidade de Pronto Atendimento (UPA) no município de Rondonópolis, Estado de Mato Grosso. Os dados coletados referem-se a variável óbito confirmado por COVID-19 na faixa etária idosos com comorbidades presentes. Foram excluídos casos sem desfecho e que foram preenchidos incorretamente ou em branco. Os dados tiveram origem do sistema e-SUS Vigilância Epidemiológica, disponibilizado pelo Ministério da Saúde. A análise descritiva dos dados e disposta em tabelas, obteve auxílio de Software R. O presente estudo foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso (CAAE:39427420.1.0000.5541 e Parecer:4.418.798). RESULTADOS: Entre junho de 2020 e junho de 2022 foram notificados um total de 8.248 hospitalizações por COVID-19; destes casos 1.006 (12,2%) em faixa etária acima de 80 anos, sendo 208 (20,67%) hipertensos e diabéticos e um total 53 (25,48%) óbitos como desfecho. Do total de 53 óbitos, 24 (45,28%) foram do sexo masculino e 29 (54,72%) feminino. Entre os homens 19 (79,17%) tinham entre 80 e 85 anos, 4 (16,67) entre 91 e 95 anos e 1 (4,16%) idade superior a 96 anos. Já entre as mulheres, 16 (55,18%) tinham entre 80 e 85 anos, 9 (31,03%) entre 86 e 90 anos, 4 (13,79%) entre 91 e 95 anos. A predominância de óbitos foi em idosos do sexo masculino e feminino considerados pardos, respectivamente, 13 (54,17%) e 15 (51,73%). Segundo pesquisa realizada em Pernambuco sobre a letalidade da COVID-19 em pessoas portadoras de hipertensão arterial e/ou diabetes mellitus, registrou-se 410 óbitos, sendo que 158 óbitos foram de hipertensos sendo que destes 74 (46,8%) eram mulheres, 84 (53,2%) homens e 44 (27,8%) tinham idade acima de 80 anos. Outrossim, foram registrados 72 óbitos em diabéticos do sexo feminino e masculino respectivamente 28 (38,9%) e 44 (61,1%), sendo 8 (11,1%) acima em pessoas com idade superior a 80 anos. CONSIDERAÇÕES FINAIS: Neste estudo, observa-se que houve predominância de óbitos em mulheres, em pessoa na faixa etária de 80 a 85 e consideradas pardas. É importante destacar a importância do desenvolvimento de ações de prevenção ao COVID-19 nesta população vulnerável, visto que é provável que tenham sido contaminados por familiares e/ou cuidadores.
