A bacia hidrográfica do Córrego Rico é responsável pela água que abastece 70% do município de Jaboticabal, região que engloba parcela da população que faz uso de fontes de abastecimento alternativo (poços), os quais apresentam indícios de contaminação microbiológica, devido impacto ambiental pela ocupação desordenada do entorno do afluente. O presente estudo avaliou a condição microbiológica deste tipo de abastecimento, tendo como indicador a presença de Clostrídios Sulfito Redutores, em duas amostragens, período de seca e chuva, em 30 poços da área rural pertencentes ao município, pelo método da membrana filtrante (SARTORY et al., 1998). A frequência foi analisada pelo teste do Qui quadrado a 5% de significância (STEEL & TORRIE, 1960). Clostridios Sulfito Redutores são importantes indicadores de contaminação por presença de matéria orgânica, traduzindo uma contaminação fecal remota, e das 30 propriedades estudadas, no período de seca, 14 (46,7%)propriedades estavam fora dos padrões de potabilidade (devido à presença da bactéria), enquanto que 27 (90%) se encontravam nesta condição no período de chuvas. Pelo teste do Qui quadrado notou-se dependência (p<0,05) do padrão de potabilidade, portaria 2914/11 (BRASIL, 2011) em relação ao período de amostragem. Esta constatação esta relacionada com o escoamento de águas superficiais, que entram em contato com ambiente contaminado em direção as fontes, mostrando a susceptibilidade à contaminação destas no período de chuvas, devido a rápida percolação dos microrganismos em direção a água subterrânea, aliado ao fato de que o nível da água durante este período, aproxima-se da superfície do solo, diminuindo sua capacidade filtrante (COGGER, 1988; VILLEGAS, 1988). As alterações observadas evidenciaram risco de ocorrência de doenças de veiculação hídrica, preconizando a necessidade de investimento em saúde e meio ambiente, com ações corretivas e preventivas, aliados ao Programa de Recuperação das Nascentes, visando diminuir o risco de ocorrência de doenças de veiculação hídrica.
