Dermanyssus gallinae kept at 25° remain active throughout the year; the mites tend to feed in the dark but they do not appear to be subject to a photoperiodic influence. Liponyssus sylviarum tend to infest mature contour feathers and it is probably for this reason that female and young chickens are rarely infested.
