Les prescriptions religieuses de l'Islam, relatives à la consommation des chairs animales, sont tirées essentiellement de deux sourates du Coran (Les bestiaux et La table servie) L'étude de la portée hygiénique et sanitaire des prescriptions de l'Islam, révélées il y a plus de treize siècles, montre que ces prescriptions édictées (excepté la chair de porc et le sang) gardent encore toute leur validité de nos jours.Sous leur apparence rigide, ces prescriptions ne sont pas absolues et des tolérances sont prévues dans le texte sacré : -hormis ce qui est interdit, les mets préparés par les adeptes des gens du livre (juifs et chrétiens) sont licites pour les musulmans (en cas de nécessité ou Dharora) ; -en cas de famine, la chair des porcs et des ânes domestiques peuvent être consommées.

Epidemiology of rabies in Algeriapar Ahmed BENELMOUFFOK (1) (communication présentée le 22 avril 2004) Les différents aspects de l'épidémiologie de la rage sont abordés sur la bases des données détaillées fournies par l'Institut Pasteur et par les Services vétérinaires d'Algérie. L'importance de cette zoonose pour les animaux et pour l'homme et le rôle joué par les différentes espèces animales dans sa pérennité, ainsi que la répartition géographique de l'enzootie rabique, sont précisées de 1970 à nos jours. Durant cette période, plus 839 décès humains sont survenus, faisant presque tous suite à des morsures de chiens enragés. Ces derniers représentent le principal vecteur et réservoir de virus rabique en Algérie, relayés à certaines périodes par les chats ou les bovins. L'auteur conclut à la très grande difficulté de maîtriser la rage animale dans ce pays et suggère, si la prophylaxie de sanitaire n'est pas entreprise sérieusement ( capture et abattage des chiens errants notamment), d'inscrire la vaccination antirabique préventive des populations humaines à risque dans les programmes élar-gis de vaccination en Algérie.
