Summary A rescue excavation at a quarry site uncovered the remains of a cist-cemetery including three cists and several cist-features containing fragments of urns and cremation remains. Three radiocarbon dates were obtained from charcoal from a cist (1645bc) and from a cist-feature containing cremated human remains and urn shards (1020bc and 1050bc).

Spiral-decorated stones, large circular chambered tomb of mid-3rd millennium, demolished for small structure (Grooved Ware) then abandoned until large Iron Age round house built over cairn. Critical examination of many recent Orkney publications in the light of this evidence, and some new approaches suggested. 14C dates and environmental evidence.
Summary This promontory fort on the Cromarty Firth in northeast Scotland may have been built as early as the 6th century be but secondary use occurred in the 10th or 11th centuries ad. There were no finds from these early occupations.
