This study is directed to find out whether teaching critical thinking affects the writing ability of argumentative essay. This research employed quasi experimental design as it was intended to measure the effects of the strategy on the students' ability in writing argumentative essay. The samples of the study were the students of class A and B enrolled in the seventh semester of the English Education Department of State Islamic College of Palangka Raya. To collect the data needed, it was used test as the instrument; it was Academic Writing for IELTS Test. The data were processed and analyzed by using SPSS 19.0 statistic technique of independent ttest and paired-sample t-test, and the analized data were concluded. From the result of the test, the independent t-test calculation in posttest scores in both groups shows that the significance value is higher than level of significance (0.194 > 0.05). It indicates that there is no significant difference between experimental and control groups. Moreover, the paired t-test calculation shows the result of paired sample test (0.000 < 0.05) in which there is a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores in experimental group after having treatments.
Community service aims to provide not only knowledge but also the readiness to face the TOEFL exam required as a condition of graduation for students of Muhammadiyah University of Palangkaraya. Community service is carried on in a university environment in six meetings for three weeks, the target communities are communities such as students of Muhammadiyah University. The method used in this service is to provide training to students. Cost of service activities is entirely sourced from Muhammadiyah University of Palangkaraya from APBU Year 2015. After the implementation of English training activities, the students have sufficient readiness to take the TOEFL test became a graduation requirement for students of Muhammadiyah University of Palangkaraya .
Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk mengetahui penggunaan Facebook sebagai media belajar recount text untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis dan meningkatkan motivasi siswa semester I STAIN Palangkaraya pada tahun akademik 2013/2014. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui cara meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa di media Facebook l dan meningkatkan motivasi mereka dalam menulis teks recount. Untuk mencapai tujuan, penelitian tindakan yang dirancang dan dilaksanakan melalui pre-test, siklus 1, dan siklus 2.Subjek penelitian ini adalah 32 siswa semester I STAIN Palangkaraya.menggunakan tes tertulis, lembar observasi, dan kuesioner sebagai instrumen pengumpulan data. Ada lima pertemuan dalam penelitian ini. Pertemuan pertama digunakan untuk melakukan pre-test, pertemuan kedua dan ketiga digunakan untuk melakukan siklus 1 dan formatiftest, dan pertemuan keempat dan kelima digunakan untuk melakukan siklus 2 dan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dari prestasi siswa. Rata-rata Para siswa di pre-test adalah (67,75), dalam tes formatif adalah (74,5), dan post-test adalah (79,25). Kemampuan Para siswa dalam menulis (organisasi, isi, tata bahasa, tanda baca, dan gaya dan ekspresi) di setiap tes membaik juga. Hasil lembar observasi menunjukkan bahwa setelah mempelajari teks menulis recount menggunakan media Facebook, para siswa menjadi lebih perhatian, aktif, tertarik lebih tertarik dan lebih serius dalam menulis. Analisis kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa siswa memberikan respon positif terhadap penggunaan Facebook dalam media pembelajaran mereka. Berdasarkan hasil keseluruhan penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan media Facebook terhadap peningkatan keterampilan dan peningkatan motivasi siswa dalam menulis teks recount.
The problems and the aim of the study. Indonesian society has problems of cultural disparities, occupation movements from different cultural backgrounds, and differences in conceptual understanding and application that give rise to the spirit of diversity in the fields that build multicultural education. This proposed study to identify fields that build multicultural education in Muhammadiyah Junior High Schools through a description of student interactions in these fields. Research Methods. Quantitative approach with a descriptive analysis. Sampling used a sample quota. The sampling included 29 students of grade VIII Muhammadiyah Junior High School in Palangka Raya and is the only Junior High School in the Muhammadiyah organization. Result. This research reveals religion as a way of learning and interacting in their daily life (80% = Sure until Very Sure). Gender, namely feeling more comfortable hanging out with friends of different sexes but still in accordance with religious rules (57% = Sure until Very Sure). Students in socializing. Ethnic, namely respecting friends who are different from their region of origin so that they are able to mingle in social relationships (75% = Sure until Very Sure). Racial, namely students can interact with friends who are less handsome or beautiful (61% = Sure until Very Sure). Cultural indicators, namely students value friends who are not smart and do not get along well (97% = Sure until Very Sure). Social class, namely students choose rich friends and parents who have positions in learning and social groups (54% = Sure until Very Sure). But not all can implement according to the theory of multicultural education because each individual has their own thoughts and understanding of diversity (20% - 46% = Less Sure to Not Sure). Conclusion. Multicultural education at Muhammadiyah Junior High School Palangka Raya was revealed to be able to be adopted by students so that the school still maintained the characteristics of Muhammadiyah but there were still students who were unable to adapt and construct.
The rapid development of information and communication technology or what is known as Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has penetrated various fields of life, including education and teaching. With regard to learning, the use of information technology, in this case, e-learning, is needed not only for educators who are skilled at utilizing technology and technology for the manufacture of teaching materials, but a design is needed to carry out learning effectively. In a learning design (instructional design) there is a process to guide actors (actors) to design, develop, implement e-learning content by utilizing the available e-learning infrastructure and applications. At the next stage in the implementation of e-learning, there is an evaluation stage which is used to revise or adjust to the previous stages. A good educational institution must develop teachers by providing various facilities to support the teaching and learning process. Teachers can replace it with a new method in the form of video or audio that has been combined with the teaching material they want to convey. As technology develops, mobile or smartphone versions of e-Learning can be compatible with the features available in conventional learning so that the quality of content in the form of subject matter can be accessed properly.
