Цель -исследовать особенности традиций родовспоможения и материнства у монголов, описанных советскими медиками в начале XX века, и дать рациональное объяснение их методам и медицинским практикам, а также определить их сакральное значение в традиционном мировоззрении монгольских кочевников. Научная новизна статьи заключается в комплексном анализе описания акушерской помощи у монголов, приведенного в материалах первых двух медико-санитарных экспедиций Наркомздрава РСФСР. В результате доказано, что традиционное родовспоможение монгольских народов основывалось на магических приемах и ритуальных обрядах, практикуемых в народно-бытовой и монголо-тибетской медицинских системах, многие из которых находят рациональное обоснование в условиях кочевого образа жизни монголов.
