In der vorliegenden Untersuchung wurden die Veränderungen der Konzentrationen der anorganischen Stickstoffverbindungen, des Orthophosphats sowie des Sauerstoffs entlang der Fließstrecke des Berliner Klärwerksableiters Wuhle innerhalb der fließenden Welle über einen Zeitraum von 2 Jahren erfaßt (1993/94), und ihre Ursachen werden diskutiert. Es wurde insbesondere der Einfluß der submersen Makrophyten berücksichtigt sowie für Stickstoff und Sauerstoff Umsatzraten und Gesamt‐Bilanzen berechnet.
Während sich die Orthophosphatkonzentrationen nicht wesentlich reduzieren, verringern sich die Stickstoffkonzentrationen um durchschnittlich 10…20% (260…530 kg/d). Hauptursache dafür sind hohe Nitrifikations‐ (0.5 bis 20 g/(m2d)) und Denitrifikationsraten (0.5 bis 23 g/(m2d)). Insgesamt können diese jedoch die nachfolgenden Gewässer nicht spürbar entlasten, da die Selbstreinigungskapazität durch die hohen Frachten deutlich überlastet ist. Die Nitrifikation hat durch die hohen Ammoniumkonzentrationen mit 60…80% den Hauptanteil an der starken Sauerstoffzehrung. Die hohe Biomasse der submersen Makrophyten trägt zwar über die nächtliche Atmung teilweise zu einem fast völligen Sauerstoffschwund bei, hat jedoch insgesamt nur einen geringen Anteil an der Sauerstoffzehrung. Die photosynthetische Belüftung hat dagegen in den Sommermonaten mit 40% den größten Anteil am Sauerstoffeintrag. Auf flachen, schnellfließenden Abschnitten können die submersen Makrophyten auch bei Biomassen über 250 g/m2 einen positiven Einfluß auf den Sauerstoffhaushalt haben. Mit Respirationsraten der Gemeinschaft (R) zwischen 15 und 75 g/(m2d) sowie Raten des photosynthetischen Sauerstoffeintrags (P) zwischen 0 und 33 (g/(m2d) gehört der Klärwerksableiter Wuhle zu den hochproduktiven Gewässern.
